The Dimetrodon belongs to the family of pelycosauria that lived in the Permian Period about 250 million years ago. It was a predatory reptile that reached about 3.3 meters. A characteristic feature was the development of a large sail on its back. Scientists believe that this functioned as a temperature regulator: to warm up in the morning and to cool down when the day became hot.
