Although it is last year's model, the user experience is amazing! Fast, incredible speakers, impressive screen! Multitasking on another level! At the price of €700 that it is currently available, I believe it has no rival!
Initially, I had the 12-inch Tab S7 for a year, which impressed me with its screen, and when this one was released with an even larger screen, I didn't hesitate to sell it. Its construction is amazing. A very compact device with nice materials and finishes. With its small bezels and thin thickness, it really looks very futuristic, like a screen peel. The image quality is excellent. A 14.6-inch OLED screen with perfect colors, amazing blacks, 120Hz that provide a very smooth experience, and good HDR functions. The brightness is high, and I rarely raise it above 30% even in sunny conditions. The sound is very clear, the speakers are properly placed, and have satisfactory volume. The battery has a lifespan of 8-10 hours, which seems quite satisfactory to me. It supports fast charging of 45W, but due to its huge 11,200mAh battery, it takes 2 hours to charge. The front camera, used as a webcam for video calls, is very good with clear image. The main cameras are satisfactory, but not extraordinary, with moderate performance in low light conditions.
The main reason I bought it (besides entertainment, movies, etc.) is the same reason I bought the S7. Its excellent stylus and its performance in drawing, which has been developed in collaboration with Wacom. It really works flawlessly, it recognizes pressure and tilt differences well, and you can draw with good detail. It is comfortably used professionally and is not inferior to any digitizer screens that are specifically made for this purpose. It does not lack anything in terms of hardware compared to the iPads most designers use, except of course for the programs supported by Android.
And here is the big negative that unfortunately holds it back. Android remains software for casual use and mobile devices. Many developers hesitate to release their programs outside of the iPad, fearing the performance of Android and several devices with poor hardware. Many professional programs that could elevate it are missing from the Play Store, which are available on the iPad. Although I gave the S7 4 stars because of this reason, I will give this one 5 stars because Samsung is making an effort in the right direction. The Galaxy Store offers some programs that are exclusive to Samsung devices and are not available on other Android tablets (e.g. Clip Paint, which I use for drawing). Also, although I generally prefer pure Android on mobile devices, such a large tablet requires a different approach, and One UI handles it correctly with a multitude of customization options, multitasking functions, windows, side panels, and more that greatly enhance the experience and make it a versatile tool. Dex Mode is also amazing, and with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you can easily turn it into a laptop. Of course, you still miss the Windows programs, and although it could do more, its usage remains limited. Unfortunately, there are also many everyday use applications for Android that are only optimized for vertical and small mobile screens, and their dysfunctionality will annoy you many times.
Once again, a negative impression is made by the fact that such an expensive device does not include a fast charger of 45W in the package, so it forces you to spend another 25 euros to charge it quickly, otherwise it takes 5 hours for a full charge.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor still runs everything (it's not that old) and if you find it at a good price since it is last year's model, I would say there is no reason to spend more money on the Tab S9 Ultra just for the Gen 2. The differences between them are minimal otherwise. Even at the same price, I consider the S8 Ultra 16/512 preferable to the S9 Ultra 12/256.
Unbelievably good product. I have nothing negative to add. Now, okay, the camera doesn't say much if you think about the cameras that are available on mobiles like the S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, iPhone 13 Pro Max, etc.
Also, it is very impressive when you take it out. I use it for work with the corresponding keyboard
The s8 ultra is a beast. The difference in Snapdragon is incredible screen resolution. It's super fast and doesn't lag no matter how many tasks you have running simultaneously. The battery lasts for two days even with everything open and running at full capacity, but with heavy usage. I use it for video editing, social media streaming, and video calls. The rear camera is really good, but the two front cameras, especially the 4k, are a pleasant surprise. The speakers and their quality are amazing. The 14-inch screen is what we need (in my opinion, this is how tablets should be). It's very lightweight, which makes it a bit awkward to carry (you're afraid it might slip). The connections to WiFi and cellular are immediate without any disconnections. I haven't seen it heat up no matter how much I've used it. Unfortunately, I can't give an opinion on gaming because I don't play. However, when it comes to programs, its speed is impressive, and I believe this is due to the Snapdragon processor because it comes with Snapdragon and not Exynos in Greece, and I think Exynos is responsible for various delays in Samsung's flagship devices in Greece. To sum up, it's really worth its price and takes productivity in your work one step further.
Positives:
- Tremendous screen.
- Tremendous speakers, you will never put it on full volume.
- The Pen has an amazing feel when writing. I have stopped taking notes on paper.
- The size of the Ultra is as big as a spiral notebook, if you will be using it for notes, etc., do not get a smaller size.
- The battery is great. If you have it on stand by (e.g. the tablet you don't use at work), the battery doesn't drain at all. It charges very quickly too.
- In terms of power, there's no discussion, it can handle all programs without any hesitation.
Negatives:
- When using it for a long time continuously (without short breaks), it gets noticeably warm, but it doesn't affect performance.
I highly recommend it, it boosts productivity at work!
Well, it is the strongest proposal for someone who wants Android software. Its features are amazing - in terms of speed, screen, autonomy, and sound, they are absolute! HOWEVER, it has two major issues:
1) it is huge!! It doesn't fit anywhere and it is uncomfortable to hold (especially in vertical mode)! The main point of a tablet is supposed to be portable. That is lost here.
2) The Android..! It lags far behind in terms of applications. Some apps are impossible to use on such a screen. *
Bottom line: Before buying this device, you MUST take these problems into consideration. It is expensive and it would be a shame to be disappointed ;-)
P.S. The notch on the screen didn't bother me.
* However, in terms of software, it offers some fantastic features
-Positives: Excellent, it looks at the iPad Pro straight on and doesn't bend (figuratively, of course, I don't want to learn literally). The screen, like any Samsung product with excellent AMOLED, of course, doesn't have crazy brightness for use under the sun, after all, it's not intended for that. Microphones, front cameras, and speakers are excellent for any use, and the auto framing function is also excellent for video conferencing, etc. The S Pen is flawless with all its useful functions that make your life easier. The battery lasts (at least for me) 24 hours. Until the keyboard case arrives, I connect it to a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and the DeX function essentially turns it into a fast laptop.
-Negatives: Don't expect anything special from the rear camera, it's logical, and besides, who takes photos with a tablet? Especially with such a big one. Finally, there are some 'issues' that are not exactly the tablet's fault, like some applications, mainly social media, not working in landscape mode.
Edit: Seeing other comments, not only here, I want to emphasize that I cannot comment negatively on its size. Anyone looking for this specific tablet is looking for a large tablet that can comfortably watch movies, etc., and most importantly, work. Otherwise, the much cheaper S8 & S8+ are available. With almost a 15'' diagonal and with a substitute keyboard, it easily replaces a notebook-ultrabook, and due to its high resolution, the experience is very comfortable. I can't say that it suits me as much as a Windows laptop, but with use, you get used to it.
The tablet is simply wonderful, user-friendly, and very powerful in performance, 16gb / 512gb version. Super lightweight, with a satisfying screen. A multitasking beast. The 120hz make a difference and the tablet appears even faster. My personal use so far mainly includes browsing, gaming, content consumption, and minimal excel, word, etc. We also tried video calls with colleagues from work via Teams and Discord. Excellent camera resolution for this use and crystal-clear microphones. The quality of the front cameras in calls is much higher than any laptop on the market, I'm always talking about their built-in cameras. The rear cameras are average for me. Obviously, though, the tablet is not intended for such use. As soon as I receive the keyboard, it will replace my quite old laptop. I recommend using a USB Type-C hub to have the mobility of a 2in1 laptop with desktop ports. The compromise that needs to be made in such use is that Linux is the only way to go.
