Description
`I was convinced that if the teaching of introductory econometrics courses was based on the perspective of professional econometricians, the presentation of the subject would become simple and much more interesting`, notes the author Jeffrey M. Wooldridge, who as a University Distinguished Professor of Economics has been teaching at Michigan State University since 1991. Written in this spirit, `Introduction to Econometrics: A Modern Approach` quickly became a reference manual for students, educators, and professionals in the field of economics. In this translated fourth American edition, it presents in detail how empirical researchers approach and apply econometric methods in tangible reality and demonstrates that econometrics functions as a genuinely useful tool for answering questions in the fields of business, policy evaluation, and forecasting economic variables. The systematic approach adopted by the author makes the theory comprehensible and leads to better econometric practices. The text focuses on understanding and interpreting assumptions in the light of real empirical applications. It differentiates from the usual practice by distinguishing topics based on the type of data being analyzed. Additionally, each chapter includes numerous examples and questions aimed at providing immediate feedback to the reader. The problems and computer exercises presented are clearly oriented towards empirical work as their resolution relies on careful argumentation based on the theory presented. Furthermore, through a code accompanying each copy of the manual, online access to data sets is provided so that interested parties can delve deeper into econometric analysis. At the end of the volume, an extensive glossary is provided where all the main terms of econometrics are explained with brief definitions and concise descriptions. Reviews
The best econometrics manual I have dealt with. For undergraduate level, it is so detailed from the beginning that it takes you step by step while also being very helpful for postgraduate level material. In the rigorous literature of Econometrics (not only Greek books but also English ones), it is an oasis.
Translated from Greek ·Did you find this review helpful?Okay... it is the "benchmark" book when we think of econometrics books. Comprehensive, understandable, and with many exercises. It gives you a COMPLETE introduction to the science of econometrics. Its main drawback is that it becomes repetitive in many parts and can be tiring at times.
