Beta-carotene is a provitamin of vitamin A. It has a stronger antioxidant action than the synthetic form of beta-carotene and acts against free radicals. More specifically, it protects the cell membrane from free oxygen, which causes damage to the cell genes and oxidizes fatty acids, turning them into toxic molecules.
