It's not a toy, it's a bit expensive but you can find spare parts in case of damage and not throw it away.

I give it to a 5-year-old and it's doing well. There is a speed controller on the remote control so you can have it at a lower speed until they learn. Ours has taken quite a beating in jumps, etc. and the only thing that has happened is that one tire came off (it sticks back on with the logo just fine).

Maybe now that I have more experience, I would go directly for something better, but back then I would have had to almost double the budget.
