The SL500 by Colorful is an SSD hard drive. Its 2.5'' size makes it ideal for replacing and upgrading a hard drive in a laptop, as well as an economical choice for a desktop. It supports the SATA III communication protocol, which offers fast speeds and is compatible with the vast majority of motherboards.
For installation in a desktop computer, you will need a SATA III data cable and an available SATA port on the motherboard. You will also need an available power supply cable for a SATA device from the power supply. For installation in a laptop, no cables are needed, and the SSD simply snaps into the SATA slot.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
I got 4 pieces to create a Raid for my games and I was thrilled by the copying speed with m.2 speeds. It took about a minute and a half to copy 180 GB of games. The games load very quickly, and anything related to data processing in game updates happens incredibly fast for a disk without a dram chip. Individually, it reaches around 550~ read and 465~ write, it has nothing to envy from more well-known brands with or without a dram chip.... (speeds with 4 raid 1900 gb/sec and 1700 gb/sec)
I have the SL500 512GB SSD (https://www.e-arena.gr/hardware/colorful-sl500-512gb-ssd-review/) and I have reviewed it in detail on my website.
I have had it for a few days and I have it for running Manjaro KDE Linux in dual boot. It is fast but it does not have a cache, which has its implications.
This particular SSD started to lose performance in the last quarter. I wanted to update the game Icarus and it took hours to patch 350MB... everything indicated that its health was 98%+, and just before the 6-month mark, my PC wouldn't boot unless I completely removed it (Asus rog strix x570-e gaming motherboard). After removing it and connecting it externally with a SATA to USB cable, my PC couldn't detect it at all. It was replaced with the 1TB model from the same series. Now, after having it for 6 months, it seems that it is not meant to last long. Note: both the initial 500GB and the current 1TB models are not used as primary drives, but rather as 4th or 5th drives in my PC. Due to the bad experience with the first 500GB model, I didn't take the risk, but even so (a drive with few games and infrequent writes), it shows that it is not a good and reliable drive.
Even when they were new (both of them), in tasks where the power of cache is evident, the absence of cache in these models is so bad that it is inferior to a mechanical HDD that I have had for 10 years (SATA2)! These are real-world usage scenarios, while in synthetic benchmarks they perform super.
I would only recommend them for storage of files that do not require frequent writes, and even then, at their price point, you can find much better options with cache... so overall, look elsewhere
The speeds are as promised, I use it as storage for certain games but also movies/photos/files etc. I haven't seen it go above 45 degrees in the summer months, while in winter it goes down to 35. I recommend it.
It is a regular product.
I bought it as an accessory and I didn't imagine that it didn't have a cable or even mounting screws. Just keep that in mind.
The price for what it offers is okay! If you have a system that doesn't have an m2 slot and you want something economical to do your job, it's worth taking a look. It's great for an old laptop or PC, but for something more modern, it's not worth it since it doesn't have cache and there are much faster nvme drives at similar prices.

I put it in a Laptop that his old Samsung had crashed and the result is excellent. The numbers are comparable to Samsung's (see photo!) and the price is lower. Colorful is a very pleasant surprise after all.
