It is a closed cylindrical expansion tank suitable for connection only to the closed circuit of the solar water heater.

At the bottom, it has a thread for connection to the solar water heater tank and at the top, it has a position for installing a safety valve from 1.5 bar to 3 bar.

Operation

The heated water expands and compresses the air that is in a closed chamber. Thus, the space of the tank that contains air is reduced and the space that contains water is correspondingly increased. Once we open the tap and the temperature in our solar water heater drops, the volume of the water contracts, resulting in the pressure returning to the previous state and the liquid that occupied the expansion tank returning to the circuit. However, if we do not use our solar water heater for a period of time, the water continues to expand until the pressure reaches a critical value. At this specific value, the pressure opens the valve and the air that was initially in the tank is released, followed by steam, until the pressure returns to normal levels.
