Theseus, the greatest mythical hero of Athens, grew up with his mother in Troezen and when he traveled to meet his father, King Aegeus, he bravely faced mythical creatures, dangerous criminals, and terrifying animals. Once he arrived in Athens, he was designated as the heir to the throne. At that time, the city had the obligation to send seven young men and seven young women to Crete each year as a sacrifice to the Minotaur. 

The monster, which was half human and half bull, lived in a labyrinth in the basement of King Minos' palace. Theseus decided to rid Athens of this burden. He defeated the Minotaur and, with the help of Ariadne, Minos' daughter, managed to escape from the labyrinth. Theseus went down in history as the great hero who faced the Minotaur and ruled Athens with virtue and wisdom for many years.
