Fortis 5 is a CPU cooling system by SilentiumPC, developed in collaboration with Synergy Cooling. Its distinctive features include a completely asymmetrical dual-axis heatsink with dense fins, an optimized base with six heat pipes, and a fully Fluctus fan, optimized for static pressure, high airflow, and quiet operation.
In terms of performance, the Fortis 5 can easily compete with large dual coolers, while simultaneously surpassing the best single-tower systems in cooling efficiency and psychoacoustic properties.
The Fortis 5 series is the next step in a revolutionary design developed in collaboration with Synergy Cooling, and represents yet another member of the new generation of SilentiumPC cooling systems.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
With reservations, I proceeded to purchase this specific cooler for a 12400F (socket 1700) because I had doubts about compatibility, poor construction quality, and inadequate cooling capability.
Well, coming from a Noctua U14s on my previous CPU, I can say that the Fortis 5 is the best value for money at the moment on the market, especially for 11th and 12th generation processors.
Positives:
- Quality construction with good headpipe configuration and copper heat dissipation surface.
- Cooling capability at the level of top companies with (double the price), there are reviews, look it up ;)
- Large heat dissipation surface with proper heatpipe configuration and a 14-inch fan.
- Its price. It has no comparison (much better) with coolers under 50 euros and competes equally with coolers priced at 80 - 90+ euros.
Negatives:
- Difficulty in placing its base (experience is required, not the best for beginners).
- The rear base of the cooler is not properly designed, resulting in incorrect contact for socket 1700 to be screwed in, requiring the mod that I did in order to fit correctly (I placed the rubber pads intended for the fan, so the distance was covered and the base fit correctly in the end).
- The fan is not of great quality (I swapped it with a Noctua), which again requires a mod to fit because you have to use the pads for the base.
- Bulky. This did not affect me, but it may be a problem for others.
In summary, it is a good purchase if one knows what they are getting and why they are getting it.
If I exclude the fan, which is subpar, and the lack of 4 extra rubber pads to properly place the base, it is otherwise a good option for purchase.
Problematic compatibility with MSI MAG B660M Mortar DDR5 motherboard socket 1700. And yes, I made sure to check the official compatibility list of the company before purchasing the cooler:
https://www.silentiumpc.com/en/lga1700-motherboard-compatibility-notice/?fbclid=IwAR2gwtkb_3h6PzrszGJ1LzVi5IK-znRBNXZl1vlFkj6-W9oLP0SL4ICj-WI
Specifically, the metal bracket of the cooler that attaches to the back of the motherboard is excessively shallow, causing the 4 corners to be in the air and the screws not to tighten. After contacting Silentium's support department, they advised me to bend (!!!) the 4 corners to bring them closer to the motherboard so that I could manage to tighten the screws, which I did. Now it works fine, but if I could go back in time, I would consider either Noctua or Coolermaster.
