Sometimes, growing up means learning to face your demons. All Jamie Conklin wants is an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is not an ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability, which his mother urges him to keep secret, he can see what others cannot and learn things others cannot learn. When a New York City police detective involves him in the pursuit of a killer, Jamie discovers that the price for his unique ability is greater than he imagined. A terrifying and moving story of lost innocence and the trials that test our ability to discern good from evil, Later is a powerful, persistent, and unforgettable exploration of the mental strength one must possess to resist evil in all its forms. *Stephen King at his best* Said about the book: "Wonderful, with psychological depth. King is considered the master of parapsychological horror, making us forget his ingenious insight into everyday things." –New York Times Book Review "King has written a haunting, moving novel. One of his freshest and most terrifying works to date." –Entertainment Weekly "Kids, don't start this book if you have school tomorrow. It will keep you up until dawn." –People "For the first time, someone dreams such an ingenious and dark dream in this century." –Palm Beach Post "King is a master storyteller. Gather around the pages of his literary fire and enjoy a damn good story." –Houston Chronicle Stephen King is one of the most important authors of our time. This particular book is the first one I read by Stephen King. The protagonist of the book is Jamie, a child who experiences his early years in a harsh way due to an ability he possesses, as well as various other problems. However, this ability will lead him to get involved in an adventure with many dangers that he unfortunately couldn't imagine. He will quickly realize that his life is in danger, but... will he be able to manage this peculiar ability? Who can he trust? The story has several twists that keep the reader engaged from beginning to end. In the book, there are often descriptions that may tire some people, but in this way, the author manages to create in the reader's consciousness every word that is written. In terms of characters, the book does an excellent job as it manages to achieve an emotional bond between the reader and them. As I mentioned before, this is due to the descriptions, as through them, the personality of each character is outlined. Since "Later" falls into the horror genre, I would like to mention that in my opinion, it didn't fully achieve that. This may alienate some people, while others may take it as an encouraging element. Finally, I would like to mention that there are a few spelling mistakes. Of course, I recommend it to both fans of the genre and readers who haven't delved into horror literature.
As a fan of this particular author, it seems to me like he was a bit bored or someone else wrote it. The story essentially starts in the middle of the book and throughout the reading, you expect something, a climax, a proof that this book is indeed horror, as mentioned and mentioned again... maybe somewhere finally you will read a bit of King... But no... Nevertheless, it is an easy-to-read book, a digestible story... but it's not King!
a short easy-to-read book by the author that I didn't expect to be so good. The almost 300 pages are a breeze if you let yourself get caught up in its whirlwind. The basic story is taken from the movie The Sixth Sense but goes much further...
