The book LIGHTING DESIGN, painting on stage in four dimensions is the first book in the Greek language exclusively focused on theatrical lighting design. It is a manual for the art of theatrical lighting that attempts to "shed light" on the process, focusing on all those elements that make theatrical lighting an artistic creation, while at the same time proposing a basic method of approaching and practicing the profession. In summary, it outlines the role and responsibilities of the Lighting Designer, and analyzes the basic principles and objectives of design; it studies the nature of light and its properties, while recording the stages of work and the method of theatrical lighting. There is extensive reference to lighting equipment and control systems, design programs, as well as the immediate collaborators of the Lighting Designer. Finally, to make all the above more easily understandable, a case study of the performance of The Free Besieged, which was staged at the National Theatre, on the Eleni Papadaki stage at the Rex Theatre, directed by Thanos Papakonstantinou in March 2021, is included as a separate chapter. The book is aimed at professionals and amateur theater people, theater scholars, dramaturges, directors, choreographers, set designers, costume designers, makeup artists, actors, dancers, puppeteers, photographers, electricians, stage managers, as well as students of Theater and Fine Arts who want to gain an initial acquaintance with the subject. Precisely because it is aimed at a broad audience, -which does not necessarily have prior experience of the subject-, it is written in simple language, often leaving out details and lengthy explanations, which are not deemed necessary for the initial acquaintance with theatrical lighting.
