The mobile phone has large buttons, made of hard plastic and illuminated. Unfortunately, there are others that have rubber buttons that break after some use. The calls sound quite loud.

The navigation button goes only up or down. It has side buttons for flashlight and volume. The flashlight even works with the phone closed!

It has a small memory for messages but the elderly cannot read them.

We have tried several phones of this type, maybe this is the best in this category.

  The device was purchased in October 2024 and in December 2024, just before Christmas, it stopped charging, resulting in it shutting down at some point.
  To cut a long story short, we had to take it to the Panasonic Service after 01/07/2025 (due to inventory) in Greece, Mon-Fri 09:00-16:00.
  This was not possible, so we sent it with a courier where the battery and charger were replaced (under warranty) and in 3-4 business days they sent it back to us with a courier.
  The courier costs were, of course, at our own expense.

  I paid 55 euros and bought it only because I thought that as a well-known brand it would have good signal reception in a very low signal area where another brand from Plaisio did not work. Indeed, it does have good signal reception. But within a few months of buying it, it is the second time it will go to service! The first time it would turn off by itself and now it doesn't charge. So, once again, I will have to wait for a month for it to go and come back from service in the same city. Other than that, it is a simple phone and it doesn't even have a calendar. It also has the volume button on the side, which my grandmother accidentally pressed and, of course, it wouldn't ring when we called her. This proves that Panasonic didn't think properly that this button wouldn't be convenient for an elderly person. I consider it expensive. In the end, my grandmother couldn't manage with it and the purchase was wasted, although I believe it is a good choice for elderly people. But also for someone who just wants a basic phone to make calls with large buttons. It also has the biggest battery available in such types of phones, which was another reason why I chose it. Finally, I want to mention that if you don't insert a memory card, you can't save photos. It doesn't have enough space.

  The sound for notifications (SMS) is a continuous harmony, very annoying. The few options are even worse than the default one. There is no option for a simple "beep" sound.
  The menu is unacceptable!
  You press the menu and the first option is multimedia/videos! What would an elderly person do with multimedia since this device is not aimed at... the youth?
  I looked for an update, but I didn't find anything. It remains as they designed it!
  Overall, the menu is unacceptable, whoever designed it is "clueless".
  Although it has a lithium battery, its standby autonomy is mediocre, considering that it doesn't have anything special apart from the simple screen.

  I got it for an elderly person who only wants to make and answer calls. We are not concerned about the internet, radio, or any other function. So I will judge accordingly. I should mention upfront that I already bought other phones for testing for the elderly, the same month (e.g., Nokia 105 4G, smartphones, etc.) and fortunately, I was saved with this one. Before I bought it and continued to buy phones until I found a good one, I found it open in a large chain store, along with all the others in the market, and I was able to test them all. It is incredibly rare to find open and functional button phones.

  It is truly amazing and does its job exceptionally well. If you want it for an elderly person, don't waste your time looking for another. It is perfect, and you will be relieved.

  The buttons are hard and clear. You always know what you are pressing with absolute certainty, and they always work. Not like other phones where after a while the keys don't respond, or you press one thing and another gets pressed. Here, you simply can't go wrong.

  The sound is clear and loud both for the listener and the speaker. The 2 buttons for up and down can be programmed to do whatever you want. For example, missed calls and messages. It also has speakerphone and vibration.

  The ringtones are terrible, but they are loud and do their job just fine.

  Also, there are 2 nice features.
  1) the flashlight with its own separate button on the side and
  2) the back button that you press in case of emergency and it calls the contacts you have designated.

  In the future, I will also mention the battery life, which is huge (1400mAh).

  I think for an elderly person, I wouldn't want anything absolutely different. If you want it for an elderly person, it is truly possibly the best choice.

  In the photos, it is for comparison with the newer Panasonic with buttons 4G KX-TU250 (this is the one with the largest screen) which is indeed better in features, but the KX-TU160 has larger keys and larger numbers on the screen. I also include a photo for comparison with a standard-sized mobile phone 6.1".

  *Of course, whoever buys it shouldn't complain that the camera is terrible and can only store 2 photos, it doesn't have a radio, it only takes up to 400 contacts, etc. We said. It is for the elderly. If grandpa wants photos, messages, etc., he should better get a smartphone. If he generally struggles and at the same time wants to see what he is pressing, this phone is the best choice.

  **One negative is that the translation into Greek has been done with Google Translate. It is really laughable. For example, "clear" (to delete characters) has been translated as "Καθαρό"! The headset has been translated as "κεφαλόφωνο"!!! In no way does it negate that the phone is amazing.

  ***Edit after 18 months and without having any problems, I got the Panasonic KX-TU550 which is a clear upgrade from the Panasonic KX-TU160. It is more expensive, but the most important thing for me is that in 2024 someone must choose 4G on a network with VoLTE to have better sound and to hear better as well as to be heard better.

  Bought for my father who doesn't need anything more than making calls. This particular brand was chosen because of its name, but also because Nokia no longer has the same reputation it once had and I have had several Nokia devices that still work. This device did not impress me compared to its name. Overall, it is a nice, elegant, slim phone, half the weight of a smartphone, although there is a risk of it breaking if you put it in a tight pocket and sit down. Its operating system is the typical Nokia style, or at least that's what it reminds me of.

  One major downside, in my opinion, is the sensitive buttons, which can be pressed with the slightest touch. They feel nice, hard, and large, but not rubbery, and if you put it in a tight pocket, they get pressed with every step. This presents another problem, which is that even if you turn off the sound of the buttons and they don't make noise during use, when you lock the keypad, the sound is still audible, and of course, every now and then when it's in your pocket, you hear beeping from the buttons.

  The sound of the earpiece is good, as well as the volume of the speaker. However, it was observed that when I inserted an old memory card because its own is nonexistent, the phone had issues during calls, filled with interference, and the person on the other end could hardly hear. When the memory card was removed, the problem disappeared. I don't know if this is due to the age of the no-name card I tried or if the phone simply has issues with memory cards. I didn't investigate further because the phone won't be used for such purposes. Also, the ringtones are loud and it's hard not to hear them.

  The camera is not worth mentioning at all because it doesn't make sense on such a device. Essentially, it takes photos and videos like Nokia phones from 10+ years ago. You don't buy such a phone for this purpose.

  Another major downside is that it doesn't have a radio, although to my knowledge, the absence of a radio is common, but a phone like this, targeting older age groups, should have a radio.

  Battery life is subjective as it depends on usage, but if you don't overdo it with calls, it definitely won't need to be charged more than once a week.

  The packaging included a pair of average-quality handsfree earphones and the charger has a Type-C USB.

  Overall, it's good but definitely not representative of its name or its price, hence the rating. If the price were a bit lower or at least if it had a radio, it would be a better choice, and its only purchasing criterion is phone calls, nothing more.
