To set the white noise, you have to first press the button to open it, which immediately plays loud music. Personally, I only press the button for the music and then the button to lower the volume, and if I'm lucky, the child doesn't wake up. I leave the projector on because it's very difficult to turn it off. This results in the battery running out quickly. It takes 3 AAA batteries. They lasted us 15-20 days with frequent use. I would recommend it mainly because the melodies were very liked by the little one. I use it in combination with another similar one, which doesn't have such nice melodies but starts very softly and has user-friendly buttons. It plays music for 30 minutes.
