Description

The Chateau 5G is a high-speed, dual-band home access point with LTE/5G support - for truly fast Internet anywhere and anytime. There are many options to choose from, depending on your needs: from CAT4 LTE to CAT20 LTE and the ultra-fast 5G. But LTE is not the only option - the Chateau also features 5 x Gigabit Ethernet ports and a full-sized USB port.

The powerful dual-band 2.4/5 GHz wireless connection for simultaneous coverage will solve most interference problems in a busy environment. For example, a customer can use the 2.4 GHz channel for all home mobile devices while keeping the 5 GHz channel for tasks that are sensitive to packet loss - such as high-quality video streaming.

The Chateau can be customized: you can choose from a variety of labels, we can print your branding if necessary. And there is another great feature: you can use TR-069 technology to create a custom remote customer management option. You can choose how much control your customers need and which features of the highly flexible RouterOS they will be able to use. Some administrators use this to allow users to configure the router through the same website they use to pay bills, while others restrict novice users from tampering with the settings to provide a better browsing experience in the long run.

It loses the Internet connection too many times and often requires a restart to work again. While it performs very well when it has a connection, it frequently loses it. We have sent it to mikroTik, but unfortunately, without any results.

I am writing this review to respond (and help) to the above comments that say it is slow. Personally, I have a Cosmote unlimited plan, I share it throughout the house, and I have full speed on all devices.
Telecommunication companies have a mechanism that detects sharing and limits the speed. To prevent this, we need to adjust the TTL on the router to always be 64. This way, we have better or the same speeds as our mobile devices.
A search on YouTube for "mikrotik lte ttl" will bring up many relevant tutorials.

Well, I've had it for about 1 year with cosmote unlimited in the area of Chalkida. With my ZFOLD2 mobile, I get 5g from a antenna that I have visual contact with, 700+ download and 400+ upload. With the Mikrotik router in question, which has very good coverage measurements (I get 5 channels with 3 green and 4 yellow), I DO NOT HAVE primary band 5g. It always shows as secondary. I have tried many configurations without success. I have contacted technical experts at Mikrotik without success. It always has it as a secondary band. As a result, the speed is limited to 156 upload and 110 download. A big difference from the Samsung mobile. As for wifi coverage, forget it... disappointing.

The router is truly top-notch for a 5G LTE router, but its price is prohibitive for home use. Of course, all 5G routers have similar prices so far.

Setting it up requires reading, as you need to be knowledgeable about routerOS to fully exploit it, but you can truly do everything with this router (scripting, bandwidth queues, firewall, subnets, DHCP, literally everything).

The quick setup does the job for someone who doesn't have time to deal with it, but it's a shame to get such a router and not fully utilize it.

The connection speeds of 5G, since the router supports carrier aggregation, are even better than top-notch 5G mobiles.

The router has never crashed, and I only restart it when there is a firmware update.

The only downside of this router (besides the price) is its WiFi. Unfortunately, it is truly tragic. Besides its poor speed (both in 2GHz and 5GHz), it also has quite a few packet drops to the point where you can't have a stable online meeting. I ended up completely disabling its WiFi and connecting a Ubiquiti U6-LR (results in the photos). It's a shame to have such speeds and have them hindered by the poor WiFi of MikroTik, so a good Access Point is the only solution.

In the photos, I have Speedtests with Ethernet, MikroTik WiFi, and Ubiquiti WiFi.

P.S.: I kept the router's 2.4GHz network as an isolated guest network, easily activated by a script from the programmable "Mode" button on the back of the router. It's okay for this purpose.

TLDR: Very expensive top-notch 5G router with amazing 5G speeds, but with poor WiFi that will require an external AP.

In an area in the center of Athens with 5G coverage using a Cosmote SIM card, it reached 575 Mbps download and 90 Mbps upload on Speedtest.net. The settings menu is difficult for someone who is not familiar with networks, but it has many capabilities, for example, it can make VPN through ZeroTier. I believe it is worth it only for professional use in areas where there is no VDSL or fiber optic. For home use, it is good to wait for the prices of 5G Modem/routers to drop.

Unfortunately, the 5G modem had a problem after 2-3 months of use and the router was sent for repair. These things happen, but the bad thing is that the Greek company from which it was purchased has sent it to Mikrotik for the past 3 months and has not received any response (at least that's what they say). So the conclusion is "Stay away" because if a problem arises, you won't find a solution.

Attention: To activate 5G on Cosmote, the SIM card must be inserted into a compatible 5G device and the message 5G must be sent to 1333.
