Lean Capitalism is a collection of scientific studies concerning the development of capitalism in the Ottoman Empire. The focus of interest is the region of Western Macedonia and mainly the city of Naoussa, which played a decisive role in capitalist development. Industrial capitalism did not initially appear, nor predominantly, where one would expect, namely in Thessaloniki. On the contrary, the Macedonian province, and specifically the area of Vermio, was the most dynamic center of Industrial development during the late Ottoman Empire.
