Very bright and very sharp. Super lightweight and ideal for landscapes (and not only). Incredible value for money. (€270).
For photos, it's amazing. However, I do not recommend it for video. It creates a wobble effect in combination with the IBIS. Look for videos and you will easily notice it around the edges of the image.
Light, Fast, 16mm with minimal distortions. Good for video. Negative that it doesn't focus very close, so it distorts a portrait. The 16-35mm L does this, but we're talking about a different budget.
I found it during the Black Friday period on sale and bought it for 299. The lens is quite a good value for money (considering it has an aperture of f/2.8 and AF) since it is intended for Full Frame bodies. At first glance, the price is somewhat justified by its construction quality, as it is essentially plastic, but of good quality nonetheless. Its size is similar to that of a 50mm STM lens and it is truly remarkable that there is an ultra-wide lens of such size, especially considering how bright it is.
The results it produces are very good at all apertures when it comes to the center of the image. However, when the aperture is quite wide (f/2.8 to f/5.6), it loses sharpness at the edges, which never reach excellent levels. There is a clear improvement from f/7.1 and above. It maintains a nice contrast even in strong light sources, and the colors and overall impression of the results are highly satisfactory.
One issue that those who mainly shoot in RAW will notice is the distortion, which is quite frustrating, as it also has significant vignetting. In the version of Lightroom I use, there is still no profile for this lens to apply and avoid these issues. However, with a little research on the internet, I found that one can create a profile based on the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM lens profile and then set the distortion to 130 to eliminate all the aforementioned problems. I did this and it indeed has an effect and solves the problem for me.
Overall, the lens is truly a good value for money, considering it is a Full Frame lens with a bright aperture and AF. There are certainly better options out there, but one would have to pay almost double and still not have f/2.8 (see Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM). It does its job excellently and with its size, it comfortably fits on any body for ultra-wide enthusiasts without feeling cumbersome.
Despite its flaws, I cannot help but give it 5 stars, both for its price and, most importantly, because it does its job perfectly and the size-weight ratio is a huge plus, both during use and when stored in my bag during my outings.
