Did you find this review helpful?I can summarize it in one sentence: it's like having two subwoofers stuck in your ears.
I bought these headphones because the two pairs that have really satisfied me until now are no longer available in Greece (Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Pro and UiiSii T6 In-ear). In other words, I play in the 20-25€ category with a 3.5mm plug. I'm not crazy about sound, I just want good quality and strong volume in my ear. So, after a little research, I decided to give Sony a chance. Well-known brand, I thought, what could go wrong? Oh boy, was I wrong.
The MDR-XB55AP is perhaps the worst I have tried in headphones that don't cost a fortune. They look like market headphones, but with significantly better bass. But to make it easier, I will do the classic pros/cons:
Pros:
* Excellent bass, with depth.
* They come with a convenient carrying case.
* They come in various colors.Cons:
* Their build quality is significantly lower than other headphones I have tried in this price range (most of which were even cheaper).
* They don't have volume control (again, something that headphones in the same or lower price range have).
* The microphone is decent, but the noise canceling is almost non-existent.
* They are one of the few headphones that I can't fit comfortably in my ear. I have tried all four ear tips and still, my right ear hurts after about 20 minutes of use. In fact, I now have a small wound where the plastic touches (where the ear tip ends and the headphone begins). I don't even know if it's a good idea to continue using them.
* The bass is fantastic, but all the other frequencies are really poor. For the first time in my life, I spend so much time on the equalizer (after trying all the preset profiles and none of them worked for me) and the result is barely acceptable.
* Additionally (and for me, the biggest drawback), the final sound is flat. The "secondary" voices are completely lost and in some songs, I literally hear them from memory (e.g. Feint - Time Bomb). We're talking about a final result that I would expect from headphones that cost 3€ at a fair, not 30€ from Sony.
* And to top it off, their volume is one or two steps lower than headphones in this price range. Once again, we're talking about a feature that you would expect to find in 3€ headphones, not 30€ ones.In summary, not only would I not buy them again, but I'm thinking about how to send them back and get something else. But since I don't see that happening (they're not technically defective), I guess I'll just cry over my money and go buy something else. Shame on you, Sony.

Other than that, I don't have any particular complaints, except for the microphone and the fact that the left earphone stopped working after about 2.5 months... I will buy them again, because it depends on the "batch" you get...

Unfortunately for me, I bought the headphones to listen to music and not to talk.
When I saw in the photo the controller that exists along the cable, I believed that they have the ability to adjust the volume of the sound, which was desired for me.
But alas... it was just a pause function.

Did you find this review helpful?I have had them for a few months now and I believe they could have better sound quality. Coming from AKG headphones of a similar price, I can say that those had better sound, more functions from their buttons, and were not as confusing. These specific Sony headphones have satisfactory sound with extra bass for music (as I said, it's not perfect), very good sound for calls (you can hear them and they can hear you clearly), they are comfortable for extended periods of time (so far I haven't taken them off because my ears hurt), and lastly, good build quality.

Did you find this review helpful?I had previously purchased the MDRXB50AP and had them for 3 years with only a problem in the first year where the speaker stopped working. So, buying the 55AP, I have to say that it is true that the sound is louder compared to the previous ones, as that is supposed to be their only difference. HOWEVER, I have to say that the material quality is much lower, from the easily loose connector to the cable, and the cuts are also more rough compared to the 50AP. Now, time will tell their durability, but with such poor plastic quality in the connector and cable, I don't expect much. **Important** the color has absolutely no relation to the photos that advertise it
