The death penalty… A large part of public opinion demands its reinstatement after every horrific and repulsive crime. What political, ethical, social, psychological, philosophical, and legal issues would such a move create? And—at least to the extent that the emphasis is placed on the deterrent rather than the retributive function of this penalty—what correctional or penal policies of the state could aim for or even achieve, with more bloodless methods, a similar deterrent effect? Under what terms and prerequisites? These issues are examined in this work by Professor Thanasis Diamantopoulos, primarily from the perspective of a political scientist, but also secondarily from that of a—former or at least a "non-evolved"—legal expert and certainly a person sensitive to the subject, who additionally always "absorbs" the concerns or lessons of the science of criminology…
