The novel The Place of the Faithful was nominated for the most prestigious crime literature awards: Edgar, LA Times, Anthony, Macavity. In 1985, nineteen-year-old Frank Mackey and his girlfriend, Rosie Daly, hatch a secret plan to elope and go to England to start their lives away from their troubled families. However, Rosie does not show up for their meeting, and Frank assumes she simply decided to run away on her own. For twenty-two years, Frank, who becomes an undercover detective, avoids returning to their old neighborhood in Dublin, the Place of the Faithful. Until one day, his younger sister Jackie tells him that Rosie's suitcase was found in an abandoned house. Frank reluctantly visits the place, and then everything changes: Did Rosie not leave on her own, without him, but was someone preventing her from going to their meeting? The success of Irish author Tana French's books is not only confirmed by the awards or rave reviews they receive but also by their adaptation to the screen. The protagonists of the novels in the series are not the same each time, but they belong to the same unit. As critics have pointed out, Tana French's books stand out not only for the plot or the resolution of the mystery but also for her narrative prowess. Specifically, in The Place of the Faithful, there is no serial killer or huge revelation, but her charming hero, his chaotic family, and the atmospheric Dublin captivate the reader. The first book of French that I read and I have to say that it is one of the best detective novels I have ever read. I really liked her writing as the book kept my interest from beginning to end. I am going for her next book!
