In May 1919, with the consent of the Allies, Greek troops disembarked in Smyrna. Their goal is to defend the Christian populations living on the shores of Asia Minor. The Asia Minor Campaign, the Greco-Turkish War, which for Turkey became known as the War of Independence, will end in September 1922 with Greece's defeat, leading to the Asia Minor Catastrophe, one of the darkest pages in Greek history, and will mark the end of a dream, that of Greater Greece.
