What does the waterproof rating on camping tents indicate?

The waterproofing of a tent indicates how much water the outer fabric can repel. It is measured in millimeters (mm) and refers to how many millimeters of a vertical water column (and therefore pressure) a square centimeter of fabric can withstand without being penetrated by water.

The higher the degree of waterproofing, the less breathable the fabric is, and thus the warmer the tent. Common waterproofing values range from 500mm to 10000mm. Theoretically, any fabric with waterproofing >1000mm is considered waterproof. For example, a summer tent may have waterproofing from 500 to 1500mm.

    The tent is easy to set up, if there is wind you will set it up but it will take you more time. Very spacious for three people with plenty of exterior space for things without getting wet and very ergonomic internal pockets for your belongings. I used it for the first time at Drakolimni where we had a very strong rain and hail without a drop passing through, I didn't expect it at all. Flawless. Tip: the side with the ventilation should not be facing the direction of the wind.

    Incredible durability against wind and rain. It withstood a strong storm at 2000 meters altitude and with 8 Beaufort winds, without a single drop of water entering. Truly value for money.
