  The Canon Pixma G540 is a value-for-money machine. This particular machine can produce excellent photographic results, suffering like most printers under 1000 Euros from the problem with paper feed marks, however, it is likely to improve after extended use. Now, as for the inks, it is a thicker solution of Dye Based Ink, the colors will be very impressive while the ink will sit correctly on most papers, even on plain paper!!! Of course, not as much as on photographic paper. The printer is very picky about the type of paper used and 99% of the time it's a paper issue. If you want conventional inks due to cost, then I would recommend looking in Germany, where Canon supplies their inks for these printers.

  The printer objectively has the ability to produce more colors and tones, as well as more detail in these colors. Not only because of the 6 inks but also because its heads support micro-nozzles, which are about 384 for each color, while similar printers like Epson, for example, have only about 400 in black (for text, etc.) and about 128 in colors at best and not always consistently.

  These micro-nozzles are the tiny holes that drip drops of each color when spraying on paper (combining each color to achieve the final result). The specific inks it supports will last you a long time, but it would be good to have purchased a second set in case one of them runs out faster (always from Germany, stay away from China and India for non-genuine inks).

  Objectively, a bottle is equivalent to 14 of the old ones we used to have but for the same money, when filling it before closing it, press it a little to create a vacuum (the bottle) and avoid its oxidation. Never expose the inks to UV or Blue Light, they will spoil. Print at least one full-color page (e.g. photos) every week to keep the ink flowing in the tubes and avoid clogging.

  Other positives: Removable Heads (Right Head and Left Head), Quality Inks, Competes with Photo Prints, Prints on up to 300gsm, supports Gloss, Matte, Fine Art, etc.

  Much better than I imagined.
  I use it with Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II A4 and the prints are like professional ones. If you use such paper, don't forget to select it in the Printing settings that appear on the computer when you press Print. When I forget to select it there, the result is completely different for the worse.

  Economical printer with fairly good print quality. The only downside I found is that when using air print from a MacBook, it can be hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it gets stuck. And many times, when you try to print, it starts making noises and attempts to print that can take up to 5 minutes before it actually starts printing!!! And it gives you an error message!

  Update: I installed a router to improve the printer's signal... and it seems to have fixed the printing issue with airplay

  The most affordable ink tank photo printer with much better quality than any of the 4-ink ones. The extra red and gray inks make a difference in accurate color tones.   Quite good! After several prints, I noticed that the inks are difficult to come off... keep in mind to use good photo paper (depending on what you always want).. I have tried the very simple ones and it's not worth it, so you won't wonder if the machine prints well or not. I used good expensive photo paper and the difference was huge!

  First of all, I have been involved in photography for several years and was looking for a photo printer for home use. I wanted to print photos mainly from my phone but also from the camera so that I wouldn't have to run to a store and pay the prices they ask for. The goal of the purchase was to keep the cost under 0.20. I will come back to the cost once I have a complete picture of how much it actually turns out to be. Now for the quality. The printer is very decent in its output. The only issue is that, like all Canons, the initial result has "washed-out" colors. This means you need to do some color tone editing. That's it. Canon paper seems expensive for the job I want, while Kodak is super in terms of price and gives a great result.

  ...... I am back after 1 and something years of use (occasional use) and the printer has a head issue and something else, resulting in a repair cost of 170 euros from the dealership, which is obviously not worth it. I don't know about other users, but I consider product reliability a basic requirement, so I am changing my rating to completely negative.

  Excellent photo printer. Canon is known for its photo quality in its printers. The difference is that this one uses 6 Dye ink cartridges. The result is that its prints are much superior to printers that use 4. Larger color palette, greater clarity, no banding, correct contrast, and much better black and white printing. There is no printer in its category that comes close to the photo quality that is at a professional level. Excellent results with FineArt papers and with the entire Canon range. Printing speed is satisfactory for photos. Acceptable for home use in document printing. The cost of the ink is so low that you don't care how much you print. Highly recommended for hobbyists and photography enthusiasts.

  I use it as a second printer in an accounting office, instead of the photocopier that handles the main volume. It does not have a scanner (its sibling, the g640, does), nor does it have double-sided printing, which is why it is priced low. However, it produces fantastic prints with great resolution.   Finally, an inkjet printer that prints high-quality photos at a low cost! With 12 euros for 60mm, there is no reason to buy anonymous inks that do not reproduce colors well and have questionable durability over time. Additionally, the inks behave correctly in terms of color even on papers from other manufacturers. Another positive aspect is that the paper is fed from the back and not from the front, so it goes directly to the print heads without needing to be turned by a drum, which causes micro-scratches. The printing is, of course, slow, but here we are interested in quality and not speed. It is not intended as a one-hour minilab but to print your own photos at home. It also prints excellent black and white with neutral grays!
