Easy installation on a Lexar NM790 and it fit into a PS5 slim. It also came with a small screwdriver in the package. Let's hope it keeps the temperature low on the SSD. It seems to be of good quality, though. Time will tell.

It cools a Kingston NV2 1TB which is installed on a PCIe Card (installed like a sandwich with the drive in the middle) and is used solely for gaming with BeamNG.Drive & Hogwarts Legacy. With a room temperature of 20.5 degrees Celsius (winter), the drive sits at 26 degrees Celsius when idle and reaches 38 degrees Celsius after a 3-hour gaming session with the aforementioned games. The build quality is at the high standards that we are accustomed to from Be Quiet, and I definitely recommend the MC1 to anyone looking for a value-for-money NVMe cooling solution. The most demanding users might want to take a look at the MC1 Pro, which has a copper pipe inside the heatsink or something with active cooling afterwards. I will choose it again in the future unless something changes, in which case I will mention it here.

I haven't done any stress tests, so I can't give an opinion. However, it is worth buying because compared to another cooling solution I have on another NVMe, the difference is 5 to 10 degrees higher (icy box). The evaluation was done with temperatures in idle. Sturdy and solid construction with a very nice and practical case that contained the heatsink, thermal pads, screws for fastening, and a small screwdriver. I would buy it again. It's worth its money!

These measurements were taken after testing the disk speed (CrystalDiskMark). The disk works at 100% there and that's where you can see the real temperatures. I think if you get the Be Quiet Cooling pro cooler, it might be even better.

The temperatures are at the same levels as the first SSD (exactly the same) with the motherboard's heatsink, even though the first one has the operating system and applications.

Two were purchased, one disk has been showing 29-30 degrees Celsius at idle since then, and the other, which is warmer, shows 38-39 degrees. They don't go above 50-55 degrees in benchmarking, meaning super safe temperatures for NVMe disks. Affordable, beautiful, easy to install, and keeps your disk cool. Highly recommended!

Without the heatsink, in idle state or with typical usage without demands, the temperatures were fine, NAND at 40-45 and controller at 50-55. However, when I tried to transfer several GB files from the previous SSD, the NAND reached 76 and the controller reached 94. Since there was only one fan in the case, I added a second one to improve airflow. In a Crystal Mark test with the new fan at 1400 RPM, the temperatures reached 72 for NAND and 92 for the controller (measured by HWInfo). A small difference.
Because summer is coming and I don't want to worry about overheating during heavy usage, I decided to try adding a heatsink and lower the RPM of the new fan to 700 for silent operation. After installing the MC1 (which turned out to be an easy process), the temperature on the controller dropped by 25 degrees!!! It reached a maximum of 65 degrees after 2 consecutive Crystal Mark tests and transferring 250GB of files without stopping. The NAND reached 61 degrees. After a while of idle time, the temperatures dropped to 46 for NAND and 45 for the controller.
Since NVME drives prefer high temperatures for NAND (meaning nothing is running to increase the temperature), but the opposite is true for the controller, which needs low temperatures to withstand long periods without throttling, I believe that the heatsink is ultimately necessary and the MC1 did an amazing job!!Translated from Greek ·Did you find this review helpful?Visually, it appears to be a high-quality construction made of aluminum with a top and bottom base and the corresponding thermally conductive adhesive pads. I wanted something that has a front and back to secure it on the NVMe. The heatsink has thermal pads for both sides of the disk and installation is easy. Be careful with the thermal pads so they don't stick in a position you don't want because you'll have to remove and reapply them. Not a big deal, but it's better to get it right the first time. After mounting it, I put it in an adapter card on a Powertech PCIe 4x and it fit perfectly. I'm listing the temperature difference, measured by running the Performance Benchmark of Samsung Magician, temperatures without and with the heatsink:
Max Temp1: 77 -> 50
Max Temp2: 101 (!) -> 57Idle Temp1: 49 -> 48
Idle Temp2: 57 -> 49I obtained these values using HWiNFO64 and Temp1 is the temperature shown by Samsung Magician. Note that the motherboard was outside the case, on a bench which is obviously cooler. Without the heatsink, even though it reached a hundred degrees on Temp2, I let it complete the test for the measurements. I wonder what would happen in a hot case without good airflow.
It's my first NVMe drive and heatsink, but my feeling is that the heatsink does its job very well. It also looks elegant and of good quality construction. One conclusion I draw is that it would be unthinkable for me to run an NVMe drive without a heatsink, especially with the Greek summer. If I were to buy another NVMe drive, I would choose the same heatsink or the MC1 Pro which has copper for better thermal conductivity. I hope you found this review useful.
