Unlike other Rotala species, it has relatively low requirements, except that it needs good lighting to produce red leaves.

It develops side shoots, making it take on a bushy shape and becoming compact. This means that light struggles to reach the lower leaves, and for this reason, it should be pruned frequently.

It is also known by the name Rotala indica.
