The Viltrox Full Frame AF 85mm f/1.8 Z Telephoto lens is designed for photographers using mirrorless cameras with large Full Frame sensors from the Nikon Z series. It is ideal for portraits, capturing sharp, precise images with shallow depth of field and a natural sense of depth. With its 85mm focal length and maximum aperture of f/1.8, this lens is suitable for portraits, architecture, and landscapes. Additionally, its autofocus and video functionality make it an ideal choice for videographers and YouTubers.
The short focal length of the lens works with the bright f/1.8 design to suit various lighting conditions and to control depth of field and subject isolation. Its optical design includes one extra-low dispersion element and four short-wavelength, high-transparency glass elements, which help to reduce chromatic aberrations in order to achieve high clarity and color accuracy.
A multi-layer HD Nano coating has been applied to suppress reflections and ghosting, for improved contrast when working in bright lighting conditions. This coating is water-resistant to help protect exposed surfaces from moisture.
Additionally, the lens features an STM mechanism for fast and silent autofocus performance as well as a minimum focusing distance of 2.6' for close-up subjects.
The electronic contacts transmit Exif data and allow for aperture selection based on the camera. Additionally, a built-in USB port allows for lens firmware updates.
The nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. The included lens hood protects the front element from stray light causing reflections and also provides some additional physical protection.

Very good lens. Easily compares to the Samyang af 85 f1.4 for half the price. Modern lens, sharp from 1.8, with no apparent issues. I replaced the corresponding 85 from Canon and significantly upgraded the quality of portraits. For anyone using it only for photography, it's a steal. I have no opinion on video.
Use with Nikon Z30. Honest lens, very good build quality. The weight is expected, so there is no complaint! Excellent for portraits, capable for night shots! Highly recommended!
Very reliable lens! Ideal for portraits but also for use on other objects as you can see in the photos I posted. It was used for both photos and videos, although I don't recommend it as much for videos because it doesn't have stabilization.
What can you say about this lens....maybe it's the best value for money choice someone can make!! Incredible bokeh in portraits....you don't easily miss a click from the auto focus....I use it quite a lot even in dark places like nightclubs and I never had a problem! In terms of weight, I wouldn't say it's lightweight but the lens seems to have quality...its ring is incredibly smooth. Hopefully, it will prove worthy of the circumstances over time. For its price, it's honest! If someone can't afford to spend 900€ that the equivalent Nikon costs, you go straight to this one without hesitation!
Personally, I consider him top for his money.
Very sharp and very fast. The AF is barely noticeable but not annoying.
Combined with a Nikon Z5, I am speechless
The lens for the money is the best one someone can choose. Personally, I acquired it as a replacement for the corresponding Nikon 85mm G to get rid of the ftz adapter.
I use the lens in mysteries and nightclubs, and I can say that compared to the corresponding Nikon F, it is marginally better.
It works on the Z6II and offers better AF and more accurate colors than the F, while the sharpness is about the same.
As for construction, it is infinitely more high-quality, as it is metallic, with a wide focus ring softer than butter. The AF motor cannot be heard at all.
The money required is minimal compared to what the lens offers, and if one considers that the Nikon S costs three times as much, then the choice is obvious.
Those who choose to go with this gem are sure not to want to take it off the camera, due to the feeling it offers in the hands and the reliability it transfers to the screen.
Unbelievable lens especially for its price. It's all metallic with a metallic clasp and a micro USB port for updates. The feel in your hand is incredible, the focus ring is incredibly soft and precise, the sharpness is amazing, the autofocus is excessively fast, it displays colors exactly as they should be in a flat profile picture, and finally, using such a lens with such a wide aperture and an 85mm focal length is always pleasant and effective. For the past 5 days, in 4 photoshoots, it hasn't left the camera (combined with the Z6II) and the results it gives me along with the studio flash are amazing. It's the best one can buy if they can't afford the equivalent lens from the official Nikon company due to cost. For me, this lens is cheap compared to the quality it offers. I highly recommend it!
Well, I have to be one of the first in Greece to have acquired this lens. I had pre-ordered it from a well-known store in the city center. I attached it to my Nikon z50. Clearly, it becomes a telephoto lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor, but I bought it because my next camera will be full-frame. And because I have the 16-80mm AF-S lens that covers a wide range and is also a fast lens, I wanted something special and something I could carry when I switch to full frame later. The price of €400 is excellent (when the equivalent Nikon z lens is twice the price). Personally, I am very satisfied with my purchase. The lens has premium build quality (except for the lens hood, which is of low quality but I rarely use it, so it's okay), it has incredible autofocus, and it is sharp even at 1.8. I also liked its bokeh (this is a bit subjective).
Also, for those who enjoy manual focus, the focus ring rotates very smoothly and is as firm as it needs to be to make focusing comfortable and precise. Obviously, this lens is the first non-Nikon Z lens that supports autofocus and does it very well. Especially for such a large aperture, the lens focuses very quickly and with great accuracy.
The equation states that at half the price, you get a lens that is slightly inferior to the equivalent Nikon lens. And when we say half the price, we mean almost €400 less. And when we say slightly inferior, we mean that only an experienced professional can see the difference. With the money saved, if I want, I can buy the 50mm AF-S with a 1.4 aperture. The use I will give it will be purely amateur. I am not a professional, although I believe it can also be used professionally, but others can judge that better. I believe that for an amateur who wants fantastic bokeh and more artistic photos (day and night), there is nothing better in the Z mount at this price. Note that it is slightly heavier than the equivalent Nikon lens. That's it!
Update: The lens comes with a micro-USB port to connect directly to the computer and install the latest firmware. Not all cables fit. I tried 4 until I found the compatible one. Of course, this is not a problem because it might need to be done maybe twice. After all, the lens comes with the latest firmware. I, for example, did not need to do it.
