The review is about the Era Medium

This backpack was purchased to serve as a "personal item" - alongside a carry-on - based on the dimensions accepted by most low-cost and non-low-cost airlines. I think it is the golden mean for transporting and daily use of equipment while traveling. For this purpose, it is excellent.

I don't think it is a day-trip backpack nor will it replace my current one for that use.

I can comfortably fit at the bottom:

    - Fujifilm X-T2 with the XF 33mm f/1.4
    - Fujifilm X-T20 with handgrip and the Sigma 16mm f/1.4
    - XF 56mm f/1.2
    - XF 18mm f/2.0
    - XF 10-24mm f/4.0
    - XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7

and at the top, a mini tripod and a water bottle for example or something similar. Of course, there is no reason for someone to load it that much, but it is indicative of what can fit despite its very compact design. Also, although I can't test it, I don't think it would fit bulky DSLRs or generally FF lenses like 70-200mm f/2.8, but I don't consider that to be its purpose of existence.

It has a rain cover which can of course be kept permanently on the backpack, both to avoid getting dirty and for anti-theft protection. The main reason I chose it beyond the dimensions is that it opens from the back, not the front, and that it stands upright.

It’s possible that the job could be done with something cheaper at around €20-30, but I think the difference is quite small for me not to buy something reliable like Case Logic, and also this one fits better in dimensions for the use I wanted. Time will tell how durable it ultimately is, but for now, it’s just fine.

edit: 3/11/2014 everything is fine with the backpack and it serves its purpose perfectly. Two notes 1) recently, some regulations regarding the dimensions of personal items accepted by airlines within the EU are supposed to have changed, so it’s good for someone to check if the above backpack suits them, 2) if there is no strict budget, there is a similar style series from Tenba Fulton (10 or 14 liters to have similar dimensions), with more space at the top due to design but also roughly double the price.
