The AKG K240 Studio headphones are aimed at professional and amateur musicians, producers, and sound engineers who seek headphones with superior sound quality and durability. The frequency response of the headphones is extremely flat and accurately reproduces the sound of the audio source, while the open-back design provides a wider sound with greater naturalness and spaciousness. Additionally, their design is comfortable and allows for long-term music monitoring, which is important for professionals involved in recording and music production.
The AKG K240 Studio over-ear, semi-open headphones are designed for professional applications such as mixing, mastering, and playback. The advanced 30 mm XXL transducers with patented Varimotion diaphragms provide a wide dynamic range, increased sensitivity, and high sound levels, while their semi-open design offers a solid bass range and exceptionally clear highs.
With impressive accuracy, musicians, producers, and engineers rely on the AKG K240 Studio to clearly hear the details of the mix, which has made these headphones a standard in recording environments. In addition to the excellent sound quality, the headphones are extremely durable and comfortable.
They are not only built to withstand the demands of countless hours in the studio, their self-adjusting headband provides an ideal fit and the over-ear pads beautifully surround the ears. The AKG K240 Studio headphones also feature a professional mini XLR connector and come with a 3-meter cable and convertible jack plug for easy connection to portable equipment.

After 4 years of using these headphones, I can say that they are a decent choice for monitoring because they are semi open ear and allow you to hear the surrounding environment along with the voice or instrument you are playing. However, they are not the best choice for mixing and optimizing tracks, despite having a flat sound, they do not have a very good soundstage (stereo image).
In terms of frequency response, they perform well in the low-mid/mid and high-mid frequencies. However, the very low and very high frequencies are not accurately reproduced.
In terms of build quality, they are durable, even though their main frame is made of plastic and so far they have not suffered any damage. Even the cable, which happened to break, was simply replaced because it is detachable.
Therefore, for amateur to semi-professional work, they are a very good choice considering their price.
I believe that for this money, the headphones should have a much stronger sound. However, the sound is very deep and clear. The build quality is very good, but the ear cushions are too hard in my opinion. Overall, the headphones are good, but if they were louder, I would gladly give them a 4/5 or even 5/5
They have very good sound despite having a little more echo, whatever I hear, the rest of the family hears too (poor sound insulation) but it is of the Open Ear type, so it is somewhat justified. The build quality is poor, with some pulls, the plug detached from the cable in less than a year of use
Extremely good headphones for sound mixing and mastering, they are incredibly convenient, not flat, but the peculiarities they have make them a very useful work tool. A good production will sound very good on these headphones. Especially mixes that suffer in the low-mid range, you will be able to make accurate interventions easily and quickly. They don't tire at all as they are comfortable and have a fatigue-free sound. Due to their low impedance, you can listen to music from any device you want without the need for an amplifier. They do not have good sound isolation as they are open back. Highly recommended.
The sound is dull and the bass overpowers. Compared to other good headphones, but also to speakers, they objectively have bad sound because they distort. Only the fact that they don't have a regular plug, but a plug with an additional adapter shows that the sound quality is not good. What a waste of money!
I have had these headphones for years, both these and the K240 MKII. They are the same, the only difference is the color and that the MKII comes with an extra cable (spiral) and fabric pads. The sound is the classic AKG sound, so don't expect much bass. They have been around for decades and many people use them for many years without any problems. They have a simple plastic minimalist design that may not look "fancy," but they are more durable than they appear as long as you take care of them, of course. The fact that they are now Made in China and not Made in Austria like before may be the reason for reports that some of them break or stop working after a while. Maybe, I say, because I never had a problem with my China Made 240, but I take good care of my headphones. Okay, maybe some "lemons" come out and if you're unlucky, you got one of them. Obviously, the QC is not the same as headphones that cost multiple times more. If the original leather pads are not comfortable for you, you can replace them with the velour pads from the Beyer DT770, which are perhaps the best ear cushions in the world. However, keep in mind that the sound will change now, whether you will like it or not is a matter of taste.
I bought them for electronic drums. JUST NO. Their sound is so low that I hear the drum hit more than the sound of the drums. I give them 3 stars because they have a nice sound but for the job I wanted them for, they are TERRIBLE. Also, the sound isolation from the environment is tragic. Also, the people around you can hear everything when I connected them to a computer. If you want them for music or music production and you don't mind bothering the people around you, then get them, otherwise stay away.
Well, I have been "frozen"! Because I also have the Audio Technica ATH-M40x (which have almost double the price), I can say that the AKG is superior in both quality and sound. Of course, I am mainly referring to studio applications such as mixing and recording, not just listening to music. An exceptional product, although I should have known this since about 10+ years ago when I bought used AKG K-171 (not the MKII) and they accompanied me until recently when I sold them for almost the same price I bought them back then!
These are specifically for studio use, so we should not expect them to enhance the bass or any other frequency ranges. I chose them because they have a very good "flat" sound for studio sound processing and for the detachable cable. I believe they are very good value for money.
Very good studio headphones. It's not for listening to music or playing games. It doesn't have a lot of bass, as many complain because that's not their job, and they have holes in the earcups so the sound doesn't get blocked. Of course, this is a personal preference and not everyone likes it.
I use them for editing and sound mixing. Very satisfactory performance, quite comfortable even after hours of use. They do not completely isolate, especially if you don't have the volume up high, you can hear noise from the environment. If you work in quiet conditions, no problem.
The cable is detachable, so if it breaks, it can be replaced. However, it is not a jack to jack cable, but a jack to a 3-pin female socket. As for the negatives, it has a length of 3 meters, which may be convenient for some, but it annoys me because it always ends up tangled.
Overall, for this specific use, it is a wonderful economical choice.
My son's comment (who I bought them as a gift) was as follows: It's like the sound is coming from everywhere. It's like a 3D music experience!! We are very satisfied with this purchase!
I read the reviews and the truth is I expected a lot from these specific ones.
The sound is very muddy, the 80-140hz frequencies are overpowering compared to other frequencies. The sub is almost non-existent.
At first, I thought it was a matter of getting used to it, but after 6 hours of continuous use, the sound didn't change at all.
I also thought I had a problem with my own mix, but even different songs from artists sounded very strange.
World Standard. Top headphones for mixing. COMPLETELY FLAT. There is no better in the price category. I prefer them even over much more expensive ones. They are not suitable for those seeking excessively colored sound with a lot of bass. Professionals and lovers of flat sound will appreciate them.
I sincerely regret buying them, luckily I got them as backups. I was expecting better bass and more intensity than the AKG. The only positive thing is that they are comfortable on the ears and head, they don't bother you. However, the Numark Red Wave headphones that I have for the same price are superior in every aspect
Why 5? I have them for over 4 months, I use them several hours a week on a high-end amplifier, playing music from a turntable. From the beginning, I wanted to find something at an affordable price with as flat sound profiles as possible, in order to listen to music shaped by vinyl, tubes, and nothing else. My experience was amazing in terms of what I was looking for and what I got, especially considering the price. I don't know if there is anything better out there, but I did my research before buying them and I was not disappointed, neither before nor after. They have a rich sound without bass/mid/high amplification, which pleased me even during several hours of mastering. As for the rest, they are well-built and durable, despite the plastic look that might be intimidating. The cable is said to be 3 meters long, but it might be a bit longer. Lastly, regarding the cable, I have two things to say: it's great that it has a 3.5mm jack with a screw-on adapter for 5.5mm (all gold-plated, of course), and the fact that it connects to the headphones with a screw-on connector makes them not useless if something happens to the cable. I checked replacement prices, which are around 2-5 euros.
Well, I give it 5 stars even though I wouldn't buy them again.
I wanted to have a pair of good headphones for editing at work.
What does this mean? I want realistic sound as close to the average of the headphones as possible, just with clean sound.
They achieve it 100%, I'm not surprised since AKG is a historic company in the field and they manage it even in the cheapest versions.
The construction is lightweight and sturdy (they are very advanced for their price).
Detachable cable.
I've had them for only 4 months, but there is no wear on the leather.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't buy them again because they don't isolate the sound well.
At my work, while I'm editing, I hear external sounds and if I turn the volume above 30% from the computer, my colleagues complain that they can hear almost everything.
If the negative thing I mentioned doesn't concern you as a consumer, must buy.
If you want to watch a movie while someone is sleeping nearby, don't do it.
I was looking for headphones that have a wire on top and not plastic, because my previous ones (some monster ones) broke in a week when my daughter tried to wear them. So:
+ removable cable (although with an adapter), useful if the cable gets pulled and breaks
+ 2 wires (they might be plastic, but they are quite elastic) to hold them in place
+ very good treble and midrange
- average bass
At this price (around 68 euros), there is no comparison with these features...
These specific speakers have very good sound for me, they have fantastic highs and moderate lows. They fit well on the head and are generally lightweight. However, I was not impressed with the build quality and the quality of the materials, the plastic is not of the best quality and overall the speaker base broke (the headphones became unusable). For this money, I expected better build quality from such a well-known company.
Comparing these specific headphones to the Sennheiser HD515 that I have, I have to say that the Sennheiser has better highs and a better balance between highs and lows, but the Sennheiser has better lows and much better build quality.
