Personally, I am not knowledgeable. However, my father-in-law (for whom it was intended), who has used chainsaws his whole life, told me that in the end it was money wasted (not this specific one, generally electric ones). It can't handle it, struggles, breaks down constantly, needs charcoal every now and then, and many other things.
Excellent for branches and trunks up to 25cm thickness. Sturdy construction. Moderate weight, can be used with one hand, but for a short period. Stable chain tension. The 4Ah battery is sufficient for about 30 minutes of continuous use. I highly recommend it. The battery and charger are not included in the package. If you don't have another Bormann tool, expect to pay around €70 for them. Attention, don't forget to put engine oil for chain lubrication before using it, and regularly top it up. I use 20-50 mineral oil! In the last month, I cut over 20 trees and chopped them into more than 1 ton of wood. I am thrilled. Note: it consumes a fair amount of oil for the chain, don't be alarmed. Use a cheap oil.
As a battery-powered tool, it is very useful!
It does a very good job, but as an electric one, it cannot have the power of analog electric or gasoline-powered chainsaws.
As a result, it has some vibrations, it kicks quite a bit (I have tried it on an orange tree), but if you learn its "tricks", it is very good for its price..!
If there was a rating of 3.5, that's what I would give it. For the money you pay, you don't expect top quality. However, it depends on what you want to use it for.
The main issue with this saw is the low speed of the chain, which, combined with the relatively "thick" set of blade/chain it is sold with, doesn't help. Due to the low speed, it has quite a bit of vibration during cutting, which results in tired hands. Perhaps a thinner blade/chain would help.
Due to the excessive vibrations, at some point over time, a coil came loose from the motor's circuit board, causing the saw to stop working. I repaired it myself due to work reasons and it continued to function, so I don't have an opinion on the service.
So the conclusion is: Yes, but...
I have bought other Bormann tools with the same battery and now I needed a saw. It is very fast on 15 cm trunks and with a 4Ah battery it does a lot of work, while with a smaller battery it is not worth it. The chain tensioning and operation are very comfortable and quiet.
The tool is efficient for amateur use, with a 4ah battery that lasts about 20 minutes. I was torn between this and the Einhell, which has a thin chain, so I chose the Bormann.
Update 02/2024
After about 2 years and moderate use, the tool is garbage. It had an issue with the chain tensioner, the chain would loosen every 10 minutes. The problem was permanently solved by placing a rubber wheel under the tensioner.
