    It stays open for a minute and then you have to shake it again to turn it on. It's not like the classic lava lamps. The white material that appears inside the liquid is not liquid-like "lava" but plastic pieces stuck to the base. So nothing moves inside the liquid and the lighting just changes for a minute until it closes.
