Once, the leader of the Council of the Wise and the named head of the White Council, Saruman the White allowed himself to be corrupted by the alluring powers of the Dark Lord. In this way, he embarked on a path that would see him stripped of his nobility and turn to a treacherous parody of a true Istari. He turned his magnificent mind to building an army to rival the Dark Lord.

Gríma is a man of Rohan who willingly sold his services to Saruman in exchange for promises of wealth and power, and later entered the service of King Théoden. Although he is not a warrior, Gríma's strength lies in his ability to twist the words and thoughts of those around him, robbing heroism even from the wise.

Saruman the White and Gríma Wormtongue create an extraordinarily effective combination of magic and corruption of influence on the battlefield, perfectly complementing the brutal savagery of the Uruk-hai.
