I grew up with Lego Duplo and I prefer them for buying toys for young children. When the child grows up and you buy regular Lego, these baby bricks fit and match with each other, so the child can use them in their constructions as they grow. I have several sets from 1983 from my childhood and they haven't suffered any damage, just like the Lego sets from 1978 that I have for older children from my older brother, which also haven't suffered any damage. If you want, they can be washed in a washing machine inside a delicate clothes bag. Remember to keep them for your grandchildren, if they seem expensive to you, it is worth buying them.
