Excellent. Smirdex produces three types of sandpaper (not water-based). One is silver, the other is orange, and one is burgundy (it seems to also produce a white one, but I haven't needed it to form an opinion).
The burgundy one is for use on wood and metal and has the same grit as the others, for example, the 80 grit is more aggressive than the orange 80 grit and even more aggressive than the silver 80 grit. It is the most aggressive for wood.
The orange one, again with the same grit, for example, 80 grit, is for wood. It is aggressive and removes a lot of material (paint, varnish, wood, wood stock). It is more aggressive than the silver one. The orange one is for the initial wood processing (like the burgundy one) where you want to remove a large amount of old material.
The silver one, which is the Finish series, is for finishing wood. It is much less aggressive than the other two with wood, for example, the 80 grit removes much less material than the 80 grit of the burgundy and orange ones.
When you finish with the coarse sanding of the wood and want to have a smooth touch or "erase" lines on the wood that are usually caused by the 40 to 100 grit of the other series, you switch to the silver one because it has fine grit, especially in 120 grit and above, it removes a little wood and you can smoothly sand the desired areas.
The burgundy and then the orange ones are for when you don't care about the finish of the wood, its texture, because you want to remove the old material on top and it requires aggressively abrasive sandpaper usually in low grits from 40 to 80 at most.
The burgundy one has greater durability compared to the other two. It is logical because it is more aggressive and to be more aggressive it has grit that can withstand friction. The silver one, because it is not for aggressive work, has soft and small grit that easily wears out and lasts less.
The silver one in large grits (320) can be used for sanding primer and paint. It is gentle with fewer passes so as not to remove the dry primer, paint, etc. It is ideal for me for such handwork. I also use it on metal to roughen up primer and paint for better application.
It's a pity that we don't have articles explaining the differences in sandpapers and their grits. All three are made of different materials to have greater or lesser durability and aggressiveness on wood.
Companies could provide descriptions and videos explaining what each series of sandpaper does and why (especially with videos) so that beginners can have an idea and not fall victim to a store owner who either doesn't know or sells what benefits the store.
To learn what I am writing, I read foreign sites, watched foreign videos, and felt sorry that Greeks, who are stars in the art, don't do this. I am still at an amateur level to show how and why...
