Description
For me, therefore, and I will note that I did not wait for the pandemic to say this, the significance of the technological revolution for Greece lies primarily in one point, the following: in the disconnection of work and place of residence. You do not need to live in the country where you work. I believe this will change all the data for our country and this is because we may not have realized how attractive a country Greece is as a place of residence. And it is not only the natural beauty that makes it attractive, although this term includes several dimensions beyond the landscape which usually comes immediately to our mind. It is the climate which is ideal (provided, of course, that climate change does not affect it negatively), it is the light which truly has something unique, and finally, it is the combination of many different landscapes and ecosystems in very close proximity to each other and very close to our major cities, especially Athens. The book traverses the history of the new Greek state, concluding with an ideal national scenario for the next decade. It is not, of course, a programmatic text, but logical assumptions. We follow the lines that started from the Revolution of 1821, untangle the knot they formed on the axis of time, and try to see where they will end up. At the end of this journey, through pathologies, crises, conflicts, and confrontations, a positive scenario emerges for a country that will export happiness. It is not, also, a historical study. However, it is a meeting of historical narrative with political analysis. Stathis Kalyvas, one of the most important political scientists worldwide of our times, analyzes briefly and concisely the mechanisms that drove historical and social evolution in modern Greece, dispelling with calmness naive and populist approaches that fed myths and stereotypes. What led to the Revolution of 1821? How did we reach the national division? What wounds did the Civil War leave? What caused the crisis of 2010 and how much has Greece changed? What will our country be like in the decade of 2030? K.G.
