  Purchased from a German for €30 on 5/12/24. Greek instructions, menu, and Greek characters on the keys along with the Latin ones. Some of you writing about Spanish are probably referring to parallel imports (it's very likely to have Greek in the language change (I don't know what happens with typing in Greek)). Simple phone, aesthetically pleasing, nothing amazing, but it gets the job done.

  +Backlit keyboard
  -Relatively large screen for this price category.
  +Red notification light for missed calls
  Negatives
  -It's not easy to input capital letters (it requires leaving a space and then deleting the spaces)
  -It requires pressing the call button twice to enter speakerphone mode because it doesn't have a separate button.
  -Important and for public awareness!!! Prefer colors with a white screen background and black characters, otherwise the screen will not turn off while it is on the base and charging. This is not a defect; it is poor product design. I went and changed from black with turquoise to black with silver around the screen.

  I also bought the Panasonic eneloop 800mAh and I put them directly, meaning I didn't even touch his batteries. The first charge lasted almost 10 days with moderate to normal use.
  Charged on 27/4 at night - died before noon on 9/5.
  So, from 28/4 to 8/5 = 11 days!

  I should mention here that the battery icon shows one bar or completely empty from the 2nd to the 4th day, but I figured it couldn't be completely empty and I left it to see when it would completely die.
  With the empty battery icon, it lasted another 7 days!
  One morning, the battery started flashing with a soft sound.
  It died.
  And I have it on max power saving mode.

  I explained to everyone in the house not to charge it before it completely dies, because the battery shows wrong information since it has rechargeable batteries different from the ones in the box.
  I didn't try the batteries from the box so that the software doesn't mess up the time of my batteries with his.

  Battery replacement with 1000mAh, their capacity confirmed with 3 different chargers separately. Operating time with these = 4 days at most but also with others of the same capacity, no difference (I have tried 3 different brands, same capacity), with their own (400mAh) lasts a little less than 2 days (logical due to their capacity) and to clarify that this is with Eco mode On, and at most 1-2 calls per week.

  I have another Panasonic 10 years old (I don't remember the model now) which with the 1000mAh batteries lasts at least 7 days (also with Eco mode on), so, although this Gigaset A690 works fine as a device and does what it says, the fact that because it needs charging every 3-4 days, I will not recommend it unless you have it almost constantly on the base or frequently enough so that frequent charging (within the time frame of 3-4 days always) is not a problem for someone else, but for me who have the base in the other room, it is because I have to move it excessively (for me, I repeat) often.

And now let's move on to the most basic issue that all, and I mean almost all, phones from this company have, except for this one, and I can't find a reason why they haven't included this function, which is screen adjustment and brightness deactivation when it is charging, so that you can deactivate the brightness when it is charging. It is very annoying, for example, for someone who doesn't want light at night, when they put it on charge, the screen stays on from morning until night and vice versa, and it doesn't turn off after two or three seconds... the screen only deactivates if it is NOT on the base, and this is unacceptable!

  Excellent sound quality and reception, louder compared to many Panasonic phones. The ringtones are average, but there are some that sound very loud and that's what matters.

  It has a sturdy construction. The buttons are convenient and seem durable (after 2-3 years of use, they still look like new). It has a light for missed calls, which can be deactivated with a code in the menu, easily found in the manual. The batteries it comes with are small, but can be replaced with 1000mAh ones.

  Its menu is one of the fastest and simplest menus in a landline phone. The ECO DECT function is excellent, with 2 modes: reduced range or no radiation (in this mode, the handset is completely disconnected in standby until it receives a signal, so incoming calls may be delayed by 1-2 seconds, but it doesn't affect anything). Additionally, on the same base, you can connect up to 3 more handsets, enabling intercom and call waiting with the "house" button (it also has music) and it has the ability to copy the phonebook to/from another compatible handset.

  Finally, the handset is fully compatible with the DECT station on FritzBox (where the Gigaset base will only function as a charger), and all the functions of the FritzBox telephone center work (caller ID, call list, phonebook, hold and transfers, eco dect), without the need for any configuration. In fact, compared to other Gigaset models, it has a quick response.   Owner of the Gigaset A420A, I can't remember for how long (same features plus answering machine, illuminated keypad, works fine but some buttons are difficult to press due to use), owner of the Gigaset AS405 for a year and a half now (illuminated keypad) and now owner of the A690.

  Apart from the design, personally I don't find any difference in practice between the AS405 and the A690 (the first one has been discontinued).

  The menu of Gigaset is the easiest and most intuitive I have encountered so far (Panasonic's is exactly the opposite, always for me).

  Nice large clear screen, illuminated keypad, loud ringtone (I always use the Midnight one which is not annoying), excellent call sound and volume.

  Like with other Gigaset phones (and not only), ignore the batteries it comes with and use Panasonic eneloop for DECTs or any 800-1000mAh batteries you want.

  Just like the AS405, the A690 also paired with the base of the A420A, which means that the bases of the AS405 and A690 are only for charging. So, 3 DECTs, no cables anywhere except for the base of the A420A where the others have been paired. Very easy process [which is why in the photo on the screen you can see "INT3", it is the 3rd DECT paired with the base].

  Another good thing about Gigaset is that with very few clicks, you can copy contacts from one DECT to another. A lifesaver in my case.

  The only hiccup, even with this one, was that it came with the menu in Spanish or something like that. In 2 minutes (looking at the manual, given that I don't speak that language, whatever it was) I had switched it to English and everything was OK. I saw that it also has Greek, in greeklish format, but I didn't bother.

  For me, this Gigaset is also a 5-star product.

  P.S. It is very easy to download Greek and English manuals, so no matter what language the phone or manual is in, I personally don't consider it a problem.

  P.P.S. Of course, when you put the DECT on the base and it doesn't stay on all the time. If someone has such a problem, they probably have an issue with either the DECT or the base. If they also occasionally hear the characteristic sound when placing the DECT on the base for charging, then I can confidently say that either the DECT is not properly seated on the base or there are issues with the contacts on the DECT and/or the base. This applies to any Gigaset I have, while the only one where I have occasionally seen it is on my old A420A.

  I got it for my elderly mother. And as happens with older people who have vision and hearing problems, I needed large letters on the screen, loud ringing sound, and strong and clear speakerphone. It does all of these and more - better than any wireless phone I've had in my hands. The little phone saved me...
  It does give you the feeling of cheap construction quality, but that doesn't affect its functionality.
  Additionally, it is user-friendly (I wonder why some say it doesn't support Greek characters in the index; they probably haven't realized that for each letter, it takes several presses to select the Greek character that comes after the Latin ones), lightweight, and has very good range even in eco mode.
  I also really liked the red LED notification light for missed/ unanswered calls.
  I found only 3 negative issues, of which only one remains...
  - There is a strange delay of 2-3 rings when someone calls you. That is, the person calling you hears 2-3 ringing sounds on their phone before it actually starts ringing your phone. I don't know why and I couldn't find how to stop it or at least reduce it - it seems to be an inherent characteristic of the phone, and I will live with it.
  - At first, it didn't have caller ID. I struggled a lot until I figured out what was wrong, and in the end, the problem was... firmware upgrade on the router, which was resolved after 2-3 calls to the provider's support until we found out what the issue was... That's what you get with VoIP lines...
  - And lastly, the "mom" batteries are small and last a little - something that can be easily solved with a pair of new ones at a minimal cost of a few euros.

  Otherwise, it is definitely worth its money (at 28 and something euros) - especially if it proves to be reliable over time
