Deep in the basement of the Perfect Pets company, where children can buy genetically modified, "perfect" pets, lies a secret laboratory. Barnabus and his friends live there, but none of them are perfect. They are all Failed Experiments... Barnabus has never been outside his tank, but he dreams that one day he will see the outside world that his friend Pip, the cockroach, has described to him: a world with lush green hills and trees, with buildings that reach high into the sky and are lit by their own stars.
