Description
Autonomous device for protecting solar water heaters from electrochemical corrosion. It is installed externally, connected to your solar water heater, and protects it from rust, corrosion, etc.
The autonomous device STOPCOR SOLAR is an anode for the solar water heater and consists of the device and its base.
With the STOPCOR cathodic protection method using a magnesium anode, voltage is imposed through the sacrificial anode. The imposed voltage covers and protects large metal surfaces with a much smaller sacrificial mass of active metal (anode). The imposed current is generated by the transfer of ions due to the potential difference between the magnesium mass and the second electrolytic pole (copper casing). The current is absolutely continuous and compatible for imposing on other metals because it is generated naturally. It charges the protected metals negatively, absolutely satisfactorily, and while the surface was the anode of a galvanic element, i.e., a negative oxidative pole, it becomes the cathode of an electrolytic cell, i.e., a negative reductive pole. The protected surface remains negatively charged, but its action is reversed, and it tends to undergo reduction rather than oxidation. The imposed voltage must be above 1 volt and the intensity above 10 mA.

I bought a NEW solar water heater 8 years ago (Buderus) with the assurances of the plumber who installed it that I didn't need to worry about the anode... as long as the water was running... I decided to open the lid myself after watching a video on YouTube and see for myself. If you have a weak heart, just don't do it... Halfway through the boiler, there were salts and the anode was invisible!! I filled 2 large black bags with salts that I removed by hand. The anodes in solar water heaters are about 30-40cm long and 2-3cm thick. They cost 3 euros... but you will have to call a plumber or do it yourself in 2 or at most 3 years. Now with the stopcore... you make an initial purchase of about 36€ and every 2 years you simply replace the external magnesium box for 18€ without needing any plumbing knowledge, you attach it to the base that you have placed near the boiler. You don't need to call a plumber, for it to do (if done correctly) this job.

It is good to open the boiler every 5-6 years and check for salts, as someone rightly commented that it is not for salts... but for the oxidation of metals, the anode.Translated from Greek ·- Value for money
