Unfortunately, Apple has decided to change the material and construction method of the leather cases for the iPhone 12 this year.

In previous versions, the leather cases would develop a unique "patina" over time, which would give each case its own characteristics based on the different usage by each individual with their phone.

In the cases for the 12, the type of leather used has completely changed and there seems to be a strange coating on top of the leather that makes it somewhat waterproof, but the downside is that the case does not develop any patina over time. This also results in the case having a somewhat sticky feeling when held, making it seem like your hands are either dirty or have some adhesive on them even after washing.

The photos show the evolution of this year's case after 2 months of careful use. It is clear that the edges are wearing off as if the mentioned coating is coming off. The back remains the same as the first day instead of darkening (developing patina) like all leathers do over time. The material resembles more of something plastic than leather.

The only positive change compared to previous generations is that it now covers the bottom part of the phone, as described by other users here. This makes the phone sit securely in the case but makes it very difficult to remove, to the point where you feel like you might break it while taking the phone out (good for drops, bad for changing cases, depending on how you see it). Only for this reason, +1 star.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the €60 that Apple is asking for this case this year.

However, if you still want to try it, I exclusively recommend the black one so that the lines that are visible in the photos I uploaded don't show.

  While I had all the leather cases from Apple for the 6s, 8 plus, and Xs max, I never bothered to evaluate the product because I had nothing to say. They were excellent and truly the best you could buy for these phones in terms of aesthetics and material quality.

  However, this year things are a little different. As someone else correctly points out, the material of the leather used is slightly different.

  This means that if you take care of the case (I, being a nitpicker, put my phone in a fabric pouch), it will stay like new for much longer than the previous years. Its material is something like leather and plastic together, which means it does not behave like real leather. My evaluation concerns the saddle brown color, which in all the previous cases I had in previous years had the tendency to age beautifully by absorbing any signs of use, resulting in it looking more beautiful over time than when it was new.

  However, this year things are different because this coating it has tends to "peel off" over time and appears somewhat "scratched" in a way.

  If you choose such a case and are a little "careless" or simply want a good case in terms of aesthetic application and protection, it is better to choose the black color.

  P.S. In the second photo, I present the wear that it has undergone with VERY careful use on the side where the hand touches when holding it.

  Compared to previous Apple leather cases: a. it covers the bottom as well, b. the construction is more durable all around (but also in general, I would say), c. it does not fade (like it used to even if you just cleaned it with a damp cloth), d. the material doesn't look as much like leather as in previous ones (probably due to waterproofing), but it still looks leather-like, and e. using the side mute button is a bit more difficult.
  I would say it remains the best choice for the iPhone (elegant, slim, high-quality, etc.) and overall better than the previous ones, although the price could be lower. The only negative is this with the leather, but the difference is not so significant, neither visually nor tactically, and access to the side button.

  From the best leather cases of ! Especially this year and by far! I have the Black one and today I received the Baltic Blue one too! It matches perfectly especially if you also have the Pacific Blue! It doesn't slip from your hand, sturdy construction, and on top of the phone especially now and more because of the MagSafe! I highly recommend it without reservation! Grab it and you won't regret it. Of course, yes, the price is high but it's worth it! Good continuation and happy shopping!
