The blue elbow crutch is the most common type of walking stick, which has a cuff around your forearm to keep it stable. You usually bear your weight on your hands. The feet are usually adjustable.

Useful information:

  • When using on stairs: If there is a handrail, hold it. Use your crutch in the other hand. If there is no handrail, the cane goes on the same side as the weaker leg. Start with your stronger leg when going up and your weaker leg when going down.
  • Make sure it fits your height: It is important for the crutch or crutches to be the right length so as not to make walking more difficult and painful. The handle should be level with your wrist when you stand in a natural upright position with your arms straight.
  • Check the rubber tips often: Elbow crutches have rubber feet, called tips, which prevent them from slipping.
