Description

The Greek Revolution of 1821 mobilized different and often disparate forces of Hellenism residing within and outside the Greek territory, which often moved in different directions but converged on an unprecedented event for the Balkans and Europe, a National Revolution that would cause a rupture in the world of Empires as it had been formed after the end of the Napoleonic wars. A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE SERIES The Greek Revolution is justifiably ranked among the great revolutions that marked the era of Modernity. The completion of two hundred years since its outbreak has understandably heightened the interest of modern Greeks to learn about its basic characteristics. This new series aims in this direction. By crafting the portraits of five of the leading figures of the Greek Revolution (Theodoros Kolokotronis, Ioannis Kapodistrias, Petrobey Mavromichalis, Rigas Feraios, Bouboulina) and analyzing five of the main themes related to it (The plan and outbreak of the Revolution, The constitutions of the Struggle, Internal strife and disputes, From the Massacre of Chios to the Exodus of Messolonghi, The role of the Great Powers in the Revolution), it aspires to contribute to public history and the dialogue about the character and forms of the Greek Rebirth. The volumes of the series are authored by distinguished historians and expert scientists, following the rules of scientific research.
