200/160Mbps Downstream/Upstream, High-Performance Gigabit Ethernet over Telephone Wiring
The PLANET VC-231G, a next-generation and high-performance Gigabit Ethernet-over-VDSL2 converter, works well with an extensive network of telephone lines with a symmetrical data rate of up to 200/160 Mbps (G.INP, Sym, 8dB) at a distance of 300m and 20/12Mbps at a long distance of 1.4km. It is based on dual-core networking technology, Gigabit Ethernet, and VDSL2 (Very-high-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2). VDSL2 technology offers the fastest data transmission speed over existing copper telephone lines without the need for rewiring.

High-Performance Ethernet over VDSL2
Through the latest VDSL2 technology, the PLANET VC-231G offers high-speed Internet access, up to 190 Mbps for data transmissions in both upstream and downstream streams. With built-in support for the new ITU-T G.993.5 vectoring technology, the VC-231G works in conjunction with vectoring-enabled DSLAM to eliminate interference and improve the maximum line bandwidth on the existing copper infrastructure.

Implementation with Existing Copper Telephone Cables
The VC-231G is also a Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) converter that provides one RJ45 Ethernet port and one RJ11 phone jack, which is for VDSL2 connection. Use the additional splitter from the VC-231G package to share the existing telephone line with POTS, so replacing the existing copper wiring is not necessary. Simply connect the VC-231G with the additional splitter to the existing RJ11 telephone jack and a high-performance VDSL2 network can be connected. It is ideal for use as an extension to an existing Ethernet network.

Providing High-Demand Service Connectivity for ISP/Triple Play Devices
The VC-231G provides excellent bandwidth demand for triple-play devices for home entertainment and communication. With asymmetric data transmission of 220/120Mbps (G.INP, Asym, 8dB), the VC-231G allows multiple multimedia services to operate on the local Internet, such as VoD (video on demand), voice over IP, video phone, IPTV, Internet cache server, distance education, and so on.

Easy and Flexible Installation
The Ethernet-over-VDSL2 converter features a plug-and-play design and is fully compatible with all kinds of network protocols. Additionally, the operating status of each individual port and the entire system can be monitored through the rich diagnostic LEDs on the front panel. The VC-231G offers two modes, CPE and CO, for application -- the CPE mode is used on the customer side and the CO mode is on the central side. The CPE or CO mode can be set using a built-in DIP switch. For point-to-point connection, one CPE mode VC-231G and one CO mode VC-231G must be set up as a pair of converters to make the connection.

Alternative ADSL2+
For those ISPs still providing ADSL broadband service, the VC-231G can support transmission rates of up to 24Mbps and 1Mbps with ADSL2+ technology.
