The GoPro Hero 9 Black is small and powerful! It brings the most significant changes to the popular series in recent years. It comes with a main screen of 2.27” and the new design includes the addition of a second screen measuring 1.4” at the front, which is intended for taking selfies and vlogging.
Capture stunning 5K video that retains incredible detail even when zooming in.
Capturing sharp, high-quality photos is now possible with a 20MP resolution, while thanks to the SuperPhoto + HDR function, the camera automatically selects the best image processing for you, greatly simplifying the shooting process.
The HERO9 Black records up to 240 frames per second for stunning 8x slo-mo.
A new front screen offers a live preview for easy selfie setup - while the large rear touch screen provides intuitive control.
HyperSmooth 3.0 allows in-camera horizon leveling, giving you professional results with minimal effort.
Record up to 30 seconds of video before you start recording. Even if you press the shutter button too late, you will still get the shot.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
I got it in February 21st.
At first, the menu was a bit challenging for me since my previous camera was the GoPro Session 4 which didn't have a touch screen. After a few minutes of getting used to it, I can say that the camera works wonders. It captures very nice and clear videos with sound that records even the slightest noise (when it's not windy).
The level horizon is a luxury that I didn't know I needed and the Hypersmooth 3.0 requires effort to stabilize shaky footage.
The camera is capable of being used for much more than just an ordinary action camera.
I bought it almost as soon as it was released from the official website.
2. The video is really good. It's truly a gimbal killer, with the caveat that the video gets cropped and there's some blurring in the background when you zoom in. However, on mobile screens and social media in general, these issues aren't noticeable. Someone who wants top resolution and clarity will have to use a gimbal and turn off hypersmooth.
3. The sound is crystal clear for an action camera.
4. I love the timewarp feature, which is mainly why I use the GoPro.
5. Don't expect much from the photos, whether in flat profile or GoPro mode. You just use it where you can only use one action camera.
6. The biggest drawback for me is the touch screen, which often doesn't respond or responds by selecting something else. This makes handling it difficult, annoying, and time-consuming at times, for no reason. I wonder how it's only mentioned in one comment here. It's the reason I started leaving it in the drawer.
And now to the main issue, why it gets one star:
GoPro (like unfortunately many companies nowadays) follows a policy that "indirectly forces" you to do firmware updates through the app - without giving you the option to revert to a previous firmware version if you desire it for any reason!
Suddenly, the camera with the latest firmware update started having battery issues. For example, even when it's at 30%, it would give you a message that it's not enough to record video and then abruptly shut off. I contacted GoPro, who immediately offered a replacement since it's still under warranty. As this ease of replacement surprised me, I asked if the replacement would be a new GoPro or a used one. The answer was: "The camera we are sending you will not come in new packaging but is a camera that we have tested thoroughly to ensure that you will have no further issues on your adventures. These cameras go through a rigorous inspection to make sure they are up to our high standards." Clearly an automated response that they give to everyone who asks the same question.
So I copied and pasted the response into Google and found issues in the community where users complained that they received a used camera as a replacement, as they had some minor physical wear (scratches). For example: https://community.gopro.com/s/question/0D53b00008BtFZXCA3/gopro-sending-refurbished-run-down-cameras-as-replacement?language=en_US
Searching mostly on my own, I found that the problem was related to the firmware. So from the community, I found the previous version of the firmware (since GoPro doesn't provide previous firmware versions), installed it, and the problem disappeared.
So everyone can draw their own conclusions.
perfeeeeeeect!!!! I would buy it again! the best for its price!!! minimal differences with the newer ones
Very good camera of good quality!!! The only negative is that it heats up, but it doesn't affect its performance!!! From what I've read, it's normal!!! The battery lasts relatively well!!! Overall, I am satisfied!!
After 2 years, I barely used it 10 times.
It shut down and never turned on again.
I sent it to the official service in Greece and the main circuit board is burnt.
Without warranty, there is no camera replacement and no spare parts available.
In short, it's a waste.
Disappointed with go pro.
It's worth it at 250€. Quality video in morning, daytime, and satisfactory in low light. At night, it's average with a lot of noise. Stabilization is very good without noticeable loss in final quality. Photos are quite satisfactory. The only questionable point is the storage medium, even though it is formatted as exFAT. Surprisingly, I noticed that it breaks a video file over 4GB into separate files of up to 4GB each during export
I was very satisfied with this specific camera in all the uses I made. Until I lost it at the bottom of the Red Sea. The only thing I find EXTREMELY negative is the slow battery charging as well as the process of transferring photos from the device to the mobile phone or computer. It connects whenever it wants and generally does whatever it wants!
It's a nice camera, it's just that the problem with the videos being in HEVC format. However, I found an app that changes it for me and makes it normal with good quality. I use it for mountain biking. If I could, I would give it a 4.5 for some things. But it's worth it!
Do not buy it unless you have money to throw away. It overheats excessively, causing it to shut off to prevent it from exploding, therefore useless. I tried it in shade, in sunlight, in water (it immediately got water inside and they replaced it, the replacement got water inside immediately, so I bought a different model), no difference. Maybe it works properly inside the refrigerator. Do not buy it.
I have had it for a day, many positives but...
I decided to inaugurate it with a 1:30 hour training recording. I noticed that its screens had closed, so I thought it was okay and it would save battery and temperature. But when I held it in my hands after the recording, the bottom where the tripod attaches had heated up quite well.
That's my only complaint. If it's a general issue, then okay, but if it happened to me, I know how to act accordingly.
I got this camera for underwater shots, to film videos while cycling and for vacation and other moments. It has very good resolution and sound quality and for its price, I believe it's worth it.
I took it for underwater shots, after all, outside of water, the image quality is mediocre for me. The sound is quite good, but in terms of image and video, the Galaxy S10 that I have written about before is superior. I don't think it's worth so much money, but obviously you're paying for the name. In water, when the water is clear and transparent, it writes beautifully, but it loses in wave and low light conditions, with the 5K it has... it's like it doesn't exist, it doesn't write 5K at all. Finally, it requires a lot of tweaking in the settings to produce a decent result depending on the conditions. Below is a small sample of how it writes in the sea.

The comparison is according to the GoPro 5 and 8 that I had previously.
2. Regarding the 8, the difference is night and day.
3. It doesn't freeze, doesn't overheat, the battery lasts, but on the 8 I had a total of 3 batteries and with this one, I'm covered with just one (using 4k 60fPS).
4. It has better construction on the lid that secures it, and it's positive that you can now change the lens.
5. The underwater shots are amazing.
6. The shots in low light need some more work.
Very good camera, fantastic for timelapse, colors are amazing, huge improvement in touch screen compared to the 8, better to get an extra battery, check out the fantastic videos it captures here! https://youtu.be/wnFHIxWV41E and here https://youtu.be/WnS6CtLb83A
Buy it with a memory card.
No relation with the 8. They completely improved the image and handling, something that was unacceptable in the 8. Bigger screen and added a front screen that is very convenient. Amazing videos, amazing underwater shots, and sound. It loses quality in low light, but I don't need it for that. It's worth 100%.
The camera broke down without any particular reason or mishandling after about 10 months without being used extensively. It has been sent for repair exactly one month ago and besides being received, there is no other update. The camera was purchased for professional reasons and during all this time I cannot do my job. I do not recommend it.
If the night was clear and calm, it would be perfect. Also, if you have the sun against you, there may be some issues with what the human eye can see.
The camera is amazing in terms of construction quality and the result of the videos it captures. I use it without a gimbal, and even with any shakes that may exist, the videos are simply perfect - stable, clear, and without anyone being able to tell that the vehicle on which the camera is mounted is moving up and down like crazy. The camera's construction quality is amazing, and the added bonus is that you don't need a case to submerge it in water. It's an incredible choice, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quality camera that won't create any problems at the critical moment of shooting.
Amazing!!! The only thing it doesn't have is optical zoom. I used it in Iceland with a Panasonic handycam. Far superior to the GoPro. It's definitely worth it.
The best option currently on the market that will cover all your needs. Regarding the battery, if you take a break and turn it off, you'll be fine. Don't leave the camera recording for extended periods of time, as it's an action camera. Record for a short time and then stop until you need to capture something specific. With multiple shots of a few seconds each, it will last for sure. As for sound, if you watch videos on YouTube, many people explain how to improve it through settings. At night, the photos are amazing. The video requires manual adjustments, but if you take the time to do it, the results are worth it and then some!
As a diving instructor, I can say that the camera is used 99% underwater and I have to say: IT'S SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!! The BEST BY FAR, especially if you get the filters (DIVE MASTER PACK), then you will forget about the monotonous underwater colors.
P.S: The previous model I had was the HERO 7 BLACK, with which two different worlds had no contact.
I've had it for about half a year and what I've realized is that the quality of 5k at 30fps is not necessary because the time it takes to transfer the video to your phone is long and there's no reason to shoot in such high quality. Also, night shots are of very poor quality if there is no light. What I did when I took night shots was to use a ring light, a small projector that exists and its price is around $60, but even a $20 ring light is a very good idea!!! Also, the battery is great and if you have a second one, you'll be much better off.
I'm working on it for my channel, check it out here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPmdkLAzPlmrqR3zn8-bIJA. The quality is simply terrible, the battery is so-so but I have 3 so I'm okay with that. It also has settings for all tastes.
Great camera, although a bit pricey. I did a small unboxing as soon as it arrived. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/KoV4MCnRaKY

Complete. It has corrected all the mistakes from the previous generation. Amazing image quality and very good sound. The best image stabilization you will find, essentially making mainstream gimbals useless. The dual screen function is very useful for proper framing.
Due to work, I needed to see what the camera was capturing through my phone. I bought the GoPro Hero 9 for this purpose, assuming that this feature would be available. However, the GoPro Hero 9 does not have this feature. The response to those who ask on the official GoPro website why the mobile stops displaying when they press the rec button is: "The live preview in the GoPro App while recording using the HERO9 Black is not supported as the camera needs extra energy to perform its processes. Sending live feed over Wi-Fi while recording will not be possible. Please continue checking our website for updates." If I had known this earlier, personally, I would not have bought it, to tell the truth!
I have used it for mountain biking and underwater diving shots and I am quite satisfied. I used the GoPro 6 before and I see significant differences in the quality of the video and photos, and the battery life is also much better. I recommend ordering it from abroad, I bought it for €379 with extras and free shipping, while here in Greece the camera alone costs €499.
It arrived 21 days late and with a burnt screen! There is a black spot from the left side to almost the middle. Good luck trying to get a replacement! At first glance in low light conditions, it's slightly better than a Chinese 2k for €15.. We'll see how it performs in practice when and if a replacement is approved and arrives.
