Description

ALWAYS PROTECTED HIM. Since he was sixteen, when their parents suddenly disappeared, Roy took on the care of his younger brother, Carl. As they grew up, their paths diverged. Carl decided to wander the world in search of a better fortune. Roy stayed behind, on the family estate, in their isolated kingdom, content with a quiet everyday life. UNTIL HE RETURNED, TO CLAIM A PLACE IN THE KINGDOM… Years later, Carl returns, with his charismatic new wife, architect Shannon. They have a slew of exciting plans – to build a hotel on the estate and to drown both the brothers and the entire village in wealth. AND THE DARK SECRETS BEGAN TO COME TO LIGHT. The joyful arrival soon becomes the cause of a series of events that threaten everything Roy loves and wants to protect… Family duty, unexpected twists, more and more bodies: a dazzling thriller, an irresistible reading cocktail. REVIEWS FOR THE BOOK Jo Nesbo returns with a chilling standalone story outside the Harry Hole series that brings to mind classic noir writers like Dorothy B. Hughes, James M. Cain, and Jim Thompson. Booklist The illusions of a family and the closed society of a village are built to be spectacularly demolished through Jo Nesbo's epic narrative. Kirkus Reviews Subversive. Fans of classic noir will love it. Publishers Weekly The powerhouse of Scandinavian noir Jo Nesbo returns with a grimly gripping standalone thriller in which he explores the tension that arises when morality clashes with family duty. […] The slow-burning thriller will be in high demand. As the story unfolds, horror and degradation peak. The village atmosphere brings to mind the movie Peyton Place as imagined jointly by Raymond Chandler and Henrik Ibsen. The complex characters and subversive plot will make readers unable to put it down and eager to discuss it again and again. Library Journal Jo Nesbo returns dynamically with an excellent thriller. Terribly suspenseful. Make sure you are sitting comfortably when you start reading Jo Nesbo's literally wonderful thriller. The Kingdom makes it clear why the Norwegian author is one of the most widely read crime writers. Politiken Jo Nesbo's latest novel skillfully plays with the entire range of emotions. A solid, unbearably suspenseful, and continuously captivating psycho-erotic novel. Jyllandsposten The king of thrillers Jo Nesbo reveals our most powerful urges. Nesbo is like the Court Jester who slanders and deceives, and – as the masterful writer he is – wraps both characters and readers equally in a web of deception and fraud, facts and fictional evidence. Berlingske A story that proves why Jo Nesbo is in a class of his own in the field of Norwegian thrillers. Dagsavisen

I have read everything by Nesbo and they were amazing, all of them, one by one. But this one here is BORING, INDIFFERENT, AWFUL!!! I had patience until page 500 (and that's a lot). I couldn't take it anymore. It's possible that Nesbo didn't even write it.

  • Mediocre. This specific book has no relation to Nesbo's previous ones which are very good. Hastily and hastily written. I would not recommend it.

If you like mysteries, murders, and plot twists until the very last pages, it is a very good choice.
The book is of high quality, with a good feel of paper and nice covers.
For Autumn or Winter, with a cup of coffee, it is the best thing!

Finally, it was a waste of time... I can't find the reason why such a book was written.
