Freedom from sorrow is not an end in itself for man, but one seeks it to make room within oneself for the fruitful sorrow to dwell. This blessed sorrow can become fertile ground, where later the true joy of those "mourning according to God and in Christ" will grow. It is this joy, which in the language of the Fathers of our Church is called "joyful mourning" or "charmolypi." It is, in other words, repentance and the feeling of man's estrangement from the specifications of his creation, from the life of Triune and eternal Love.
