The body is stable, but the cat's head rotates on two axes, so you can direct the light wherever you want. It has three different lighting modes: warm, cool, and intermediate. And three intensity levels for each one. It also has a night light (it is the base of the pencil holder) that you can turn on if you want; it does not have a photocell. The buttons are touch-sensitive, at the eyes. It seems to be well made; I hope it lasts.
