Description
Inspired by Renaissance retables, triptychs that narrate the lives of saints, the author composed the portrait of her mother, Hedi Diner, in three sections, connected by the fascinating personality of the Hungarian-Jewish heroine, who was born in a small village in a valley on the banks of the Danube, Pinshechei, and came to Athens shortly before World War II. Having lost her family in concentration camps, she survived thanks to her marriage to her Greek husband, Mitzo, and built her life in a turbulent Athens that she loved and made her own.
The first section concerns the art of portraiture and the questions that arise when writing about someone as close as your mother. The second is a collection of testimonies from the heroine, recounting the events of her life in a spontaneous and direct manner, from carefree pre-war days in Budapest and Vienna to the occupation of Athens and the post-war years. In the third section, the author analyzes with subtle insight the difficult and inexhaustible relationship between a mother and her daughter.
