A true story that shook Kythera in 1909. A fascinating dive into the psyche of a man who had everything he wanted in his life, who relied on the acceptance of those around him and generously reciprocated it. But the sudden rejection, the ongoing injustice against him, and an entire world collapsing around him turn him against everyone and lead him to commit the most heinous crime ever in Greece.
A shocking novel, based on true events, about fate and the games it plays against us, about the invisible threads that define our lives, and the strength we must find to define it ourselves. About the morality of a society that can destroy human lives on the altar of herd normality, which is based on gossip, criticism, and the malicious tendency of people to seek scapegoats.
At the same time, about the morality that each person personally shapes, like the hero of the book, Kastelanis, which leads him to disastrous results against a society that opposes him.

I got to know the story and heard enthusiastic reviews about the TV series, so I got the book. Very well-written, simple but with a particular descriptive expression, it "flows" effortlessly. I read it in 6 consecutive hours, but it's not something that "sucks you in!" Quite a bit of length, about half, is dedicated to the situation before the events and a little "rushed" in the rest. Ultimately, a very good account and as much as possible, a retrospective description of a true story, without novelistic dramatization.
Very close to the movie I saw before reading it. However, you should first read the book and then watch the movie because the image is always more powerful and strictly judges the book. Nice reason.
A captivating story that combines intense emotions and philosophical quests in a unique narrative. The author skillfully weaves the (true) stories of a family in Kythira as well as the other figures of the local community, creating a web of human relationships and emotions that cannot fail to touch you as a reader. With symbolism and rich description, the author highlights the difficulties of life while simultaneously casting a critical eye on the cultural and social structures that determine our choices. The language of Dimakis is rich and dense, full of images that come alive before your eyes. An easy-to-read book that will take you on a journey and will certainly not leave you indifferent.
Very good first attempt by the author. The story teaches us on its own and unfortunately reminds us that
Wonderful book, delves into the human soul, reminiscent of Papadiamantis and Dostoevsky. The three stars because it has been printed incorrectly. 17 pages are missing, while 31 pages are duplicated.
This is a true story, with altered names and events, for the protection of the victims, without this affecting the outcome.
Easy-to-read book, descriptive, a real companion for the summer months and beyond.
It is an excellent novel, easy to read. The author narrates all the events with incredible mastery and simplicity so as not to tire you. The style is very evocative throughout the story, which automatically, as you read, transforms words into images that take you to another era. A chilling book from an old era that transports you to the wonderful island of Kythira (Tsirigo)
The story is quite interesting (although it is true), but the writing style tired me a bit.
Of course, every opinion is subjective.
As for the author, he is the very likable Panos Dimakis, the famous "hawk" from the TV game show chase!
Quite well-written and the fact that it is a true story makes it very interesting.
