I put it over the canopy for protection from the sun and rain. It is so big that it became a large tent that I parked underneath and used it as a patio. It withstood a strong storm and didn't leak. In strong wind, a small crack appeared, but it's not a big deal, it paid for itself. Another advantage is that even though it's huge, when it's folded up, it takes up very little space, so I easily carried it on my motorcycle.
