  Always double because it is huge and has helped me a lot. It doesn't work as a "barrier" from the sand, but even if sand falls on it, it actually comes out of the holes so the towel never fills with sand in any case. I have been using it for a second year and it has been very useful

  The "straw mat" needs to be folded at least in three layers in order to be used. Without folding, it is so thin and the weave is so loose that sand simply passes through and sticks to you. It can be used more as a net for insects or as a mosquito net rather than something you can sit on.

  What others are saying is true, it does NOT hold the sand in any direction because it is simply a net. So if you sit on it while wet, you will be a mess.
