The classic novel by Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo" was written when the author once passed by the eponymous Mediterranean island, next to Corsica, and was enchanted by its wild beauty. The hero of the story, the young Edmond Dantès, a victim of a plot by his rivals, spends about fifteen years imprisoned in the Château d'If, but eventually manages to escape and finds an immense treasure on the island of Monte Cristo, as confided to him by a fellow prisoner, Abbé Faria, who died in prison.
Having lost his elderly father in the meantime, he makes it his life's purpose to avenge those who wronged him. He devises an excellent plan based on the money he possesses, learns details about the conspiracy against him, approaches the people who condemned him (now unrecognizable) and leads them to destitution, suicide, and madness.

I will not judge the work as I have not finished it yet. However, I will evaluate the edition as it is important to mention for anyone looking to read this specific work that it is fully translated (unlike other abbreviated editions available) and is developed in two volumes of approximately 1300 pages in total. Additionally, it has a hardcover (not a softcover as mentioned in the description) with a protective paper cover, including some black and white illustrations from the original edition. The translation is quite good. Given the price and the quality of the edition, it is highly recommended.
