The great French writer Alexandre Dumas presents in this work objectively the tyrant of Epirus, impartially depicting both the good and the bad sides of his character and personality. Of Albanian origin, tall, strong, with a handsome appearance, rebellious, extremely intelligent but also cunning, generous with his friends, vengeful and ruthless with his enemies, he managed to accumulate immense wealth and become the ruler of Ioannina, Epirus, Thessaly, and a large part of Western Central Greece, aiming to break away from the Ottoman Empire and create his own state. As a visionary, he realized the movements of the Greeks for their independence and unintentionally helped them, forcing the Sultan's great forces to besiege him, thus leaving enough freedom of movement to the subjects of southern Greece.
